Yeah, I have the HK45 but missed out on the P227 I was interested in...and then I saw the Valor.

Austin228I have a P227 and a HK45C (compact).
I like both, my P227 is NRA Excellent with all box and papers (some would call it LNIB).
HK45C I bought used and someone must have dragged the slide behind a truck or something for several miles (it looks really beat up, works perfect, I'd say slide condition Good).
HK45C I use as my Home Defense gun, have a light on it and the ten round magazines with the elephant foot makes it a 10+1 gun DA/SA w/manual safety.
I used to prefer SIG DA/SA but now after 30+ years of handgun training I don't mind all the different DA/SA systems, Striker, DAO, etc.
I've fired the P227 before and its a fine gun, got the 14 round magazines CDNN had that were really converted .45 P320 magazines that are actually reliable.
So the P227 beats the HK45 (either model) with 14+1 capacity and better ergonomics.
I know I can keep getting new parts for the HK45C makes that the more "usable" gun to me.
I also rotate a fat stainless slide German frame P229 and my "Classic" (2001) Glock 32 (with 9mm conversion usually) into my home defense rotation as well, but mostly it's the HK45C.
I like subsonic inside a house, if you've ever fired a 357SIG Glock 32 inside a house you'll know why, my ears are still ringing from 20+ years ago.

DevereauxNot sure about the difference between an HK45 & a USP45. I have a USP 45, a USPc 45, a P227, and a P227 SAS.
I think all those guns are rugged, reliable, and great to shoot.I prefer the SAS model, as well as the USPc, but then I generally prefer Commander-length pistols.
MY USP it finicky about bullet ogive. Lead, coated rounds that shoot great in my 1911's get hung on the lands of the USP (they measure well within the max OAL>

I personally think Sig triggers are easier to shoot, but I have replaced most of my Sig triggers with the older rounded ones. I also like the fact that the 227 & the 220 have interchangeable slides. Got a threaded barrel from Sig for my 227 that was actually listed for a 220 - fit perfectly. The SRT in a Sig is a whole bunch easier to install than the HK's - and I did them all. I also like the de cocking lever on thee Sig better. Even with the SRT's, to ME the triggers on the HK's are worse than the Sigs.
But BOY that USP is built like a tank!

The USP uses polygonal rifling. It's not recommended to use unjacketed lead rounds in a polygonal barrel it doesn't form a proper seal leading to pressure spikes and lead deposits in the barrel. You can get away with it occasionally, but a steady diet will lead to problems.

DaBigBRHK45. It still exists. I own a fullsize and an HK45CT and they're fun although I can't remember when I last shot them.

VaftocrLove them both but HK would be my choice. I have really come to appreciate them more and more as time goes by. They just feel a notch above. If it’s a difficult decision….logic says…buy both.

KevHBetween those HK45, by far.
Todd Green (RIP) did a well documented endurance test on the HK45 in 2010 where he ran one in excess of 50,000 rounds, documenting every stoppage, malfunction, and parts issue. If you google his name and HK45 the weekly review posts are still out there.
They are excellent guns.

They are excellent guns.
During his Pistol-Training.com endurance tests, he replaced parts on the HK45 and P30 at regular intervals, rather than waiting for them to break. For me, his testing would have been much more credible if he only replaced parts as they broke.
With that said, I do think they are good pistols.

mindustrialMore of a target shooter, so the mushy plastic trigger is out for me. Still have a USP, just like Sigs more. I’ve heard the HK trigger can be improved, just haven’t made the effort.

MacGyverThe crappiness of HK triggers is way overblown IMO. Despite some initial grit before break-in, they all have the same stacking, lock-time, and positive reset as any DA/SA SIG Sauer. The only thing they lack is a factory short-reset option, which is a non-issue IMO.
The factory Match trigger in my USP Expert is a touch better (in all trigger characteristics) than every DA/SA P-series I’ve owned, except for a P226 that I had Robert Burke work on.

Rick LeeI will grab one of these when the right deal pops up. IMHO, all hammer-fired HK pistols need trigger mods. Their stock triggers just are not in the same league as SIGs.

pedropcolaI have a USP Expert in 45. The only thing I dislike is I wish I had another in 9mm.
Great guns. Any trigger issues you perceive are easily remedied by your cc and a visit to Grayguns. lol. You will have no complaints.
Personally all but one HK has been migrated to LEM. I have had an on again off again relationship with LEM for more than a decade. I am currently back in the in love position. Give it a year who knows.
In that choice the HK specifically the USP would be my preferred choice.

Respectfully, I disagree. I found the ergos of my P2000 and USP-C to be very comfortable in my hands but I hated the triggers on both.
However, the day I get in to the 45ACP game, it'll be a suppressor host and most likely an HK that will go
somewhere for a trigger job.
