Sig P227 vs HK45
IF you had to pick between the two as a range gun, home defense option and "because I just like it better", which would you choose?

…..both Frown

Me personally the HK45 for no other reason then I have become a bit of an HK “delta bravo” over the years and it’s mags will work in my 45c. I also like that I can change the trigger “on a whim”. It’s also shown to be one hell for stout durable go to war gun.

Purely for range and a bit of that “forgotten weapons” kinda thing, the P227. It will have a far better DA/SA trigger, should be just as reliable with 10 round magazines and is an honest to by God metal gun which is cool in its own right especially these days.

I guess it’s kinda where you lean more. Practical the HK, range toy the P227 although both will fit into either slot.

Gahhh I am a gun geek. It’s like asking a drug addict if he wants a line of cocaine or a bit of heroin, the answer is yes. Razz

Thanks Chris..."Both" is likely inevitable. I have had both but not at the same time. Have the HK now and am working on grabbing a P227 again right now. You touched on most of my thoughts on the subject and the answer IS, of course, yes.
Thanks,
Bob

I'd pull for the P227 since I had one of those and liked it. I saw no issues and can't think of any negatives.

While I've never shot a Langdon tuned HK, I've never shot a USP or later hammer fired HK with an impressive much less measured up to a Sig SRT from factory.

gut instinct is the 227

You won’t find one from Langdon either.

I’d go with the HK45 if I were buying. The P227 is very cool, but other than for its capacity, it doesn’t check any more boxes for me than the P220 that I owned in the past already did. I agree with others who said that if you really like both, you’ll probably end up with both at some point anyway. In that case, a P227 is harder to find than an HK45 and may be worth prioritizing.

Of the two I'd do the HK 45, but I would encourage the USP .45. It is overbuilt AND you get two extra rounds.

Thanks Mac, et al.,

I owned a P227 years back but let it go in a brief moment of weakness when a very generous offer was presented. I currently have an HK45. If the one I have been looking at is still available, I will probably pick it up this weekend or the next time I get over to the shop where is currently resides.

I don't own either and like the concept of the 227. I have a 220.

If I personally had to choose between those two and my life potentially depended on it, I'd get the HK.

I have both and while there are certain advantages to the 227 in terms of how it fits my hand and my love of sigs it is out of production, and has been for some time. and was never made in volume, and had issues with things like the 14rd mags and some other problems.
And Sig has a well deserved reputation for sucking at supporting out of production guns.
In addition to being current the HK45 has options on the operating system, etc.
Not a chance you should pick a 227.

I don't own a P227, and have never even held one in my hands. I also never plan on purchasing a P227.
Part of the reason is Sig never made a production P227 with a stainless steel frame.
I simply prefer all stainless steel Sig's, and don't even own one Sig with an aluminum or plastic frame.
I did have a pair of all stainless P220's and sold them both about a year ago.
I replaced them with one HK45 full size.

tell me exactly what a stainless Sig 227 frame has to do with this issue and comparison if you bought an HK45. It doesn't connect in any way for me.

P227 guns had problems with the 14? round magazines.
Notably reliable with the 10 round magazines only.
Magazine capacity is equal. P227 = 10. HK45 = 10.
P227 guns have aluminum frames.
I don't do aluminum frame guns.
HK45 polymer frames have steel inserts.
So the steel slide runs on the steel inserts cast into the polymer frames.
Steel on steel.
P227 guns have steel slides running on anodized aluminum frame rails.
It's a "me" thing. Look to the left at my"cut" and you'll understand.
Buy all the P227 guns that "you" desire.

From the standpoint of parts and support, the HK45 is going to beat the P227 by a long shot. HK45 mags are a dime a dozen new and used. I have a HK45 with the LEM trigger which I enhanced with a enhanced firing pin block spring and a reduced power mainspring. It is amazing. The ergonomics of the HK45 grip are fantastic as well.
I throw myself at the feet of the SIG God for this blasphemy, but I cannot tell a fib. The HK45 is the better of the two pistols.

I own a 227 Carry and have about four 14 round mags for it. The gun has been flawless with those as well as the ten round mags. Not one single hiccup with either. I bought MecGar from CDNN.

So, to continue with my original post, I went by the shop today to pick up the P227 but it was not in the case...someone beat me to it...sad.

Looking around a little further, I noticed something new. It was an almost new, practically unused, Dan Wesson Valor V-Bob 45acp, at what seems like a reasonable (not great) price. According to the shop owner, the consignment piece was a safe queen, put away in the safe after the "break in" instructions were satisfied and remained unused since.

Now, I'm not a fickle kind of guy and was barely over missing out on the P227, so I decided to take my chances and take a day or two to think about it.

Maybe, with a little time followed by some negotiation, I can turn it into a great price.

dude it's hard to beat a DW Valor. However, for a serious go-to-war gun I'd still choose the HK.
