Hello All, I have a P220 Carry with stainless steel frame. I am tempted to get a full-sized slide for it just as an option. I have read that there is a difference between the locking insert for the stainless frames vs for the aluminum frames. However, is there a difference between the Locking Insert for full-sized barrel/slides vs Carry-length barrel/slide, when talking about stainless frames? This will influence whether I pursue this or not. On a related note- P226 in 9mm. If I am using a .40S&W upper, do I need to change the locking insert while using the .40? I am NOT using the .40/.357 for defensive purposes, but only for range fun. I just like to know what is really required. Thanks again! Sigs and Non-Sigs: I enjoy having options!

Thinking you'll need to swap 'em out for the calibers, but the frames are milled to the same spec?

What are the markings (dots) on the locking insert in your P220 compact? My thought is that if they match the markings on a full-sized steel framed P220 then they should be the same locking inserts. Enough people here have P220 STs that if you can tell us about the locking insert you have then someone here should be able to tell you if the markings on the locking insert for a full-sized pistol are the same.

probably a good thing I don't have a cut |
Sig Sauer P220/P227R3 Locking Insert The description for this part says it is for the P220 and can be used in the compact/carry pistols as well. Seems clear they are the same to me.

My experience with swapping P220 carry slides and full size slides is there is no difference in terms of function. I've even swapped P220 slides on to a P227 frame (and vice versa) and that works too...so like Paten notes via Sig's part numbers, everything points to locking inserts being all the same. Can you link to wherever you read that there is a difference? ...that I will support and defend...

For whatever it's worth, the locking insert of my P220 with steel frame that was made in Germany has lines of five identification pits/dimples. They are on both sides of the insert, and I believe that indicates it's a MIM part. ► 6.4/93.6 ___________ “We are Americans ….
