If you own a Belgian Browning .22 pistol like the Medalist or Nomad or Challenger (NOT Challenger II or III) you likely already know this but factory mags are $200+ and unobtanium, Triple K mags are garbage. However, Beretta Neos mags are $20 and you can easily modify them to work in the Brownings as well as the Second Gen Colt Woodsman I believe.

For the Brownings you need to make three (possibly 4) mods:
1. Shave down the rear portion of the baseplate so the factory Browning mag latch can function. The problem with this is it leaves a very thin flap of the baseplate if you shave it down parallel to the bottom of the mag. Some have finagled sheet metal spacers or other methods; I just used an 11 degree (from perpendicular) setting on my cheap table disc sander and it leaves a more triangular (and I hope more robust) edge for the mag latch to engage.

2. Shave down the mag button just a bit. This is required because the Neos button is too long to fit into the magwell of the Browning. Go easy because if you go too short the slide stop won’t work after the last round. Of the 7 I modded, I went too short on one. Still feeds fine though.

3. Shave off the raised bump at the front of the Neos magazine follower. Without this mod mine fed fine rounds 1-8, but then double fed 9-10 every time. With the bump sanded down flat like the Beretta follower it feeds perfectly.

4. (Possibly). You may have to shave down the ribs along the back of the Neos mags to have them glide smoothly into the Browning magwell. Some I’ve read have had to do this for every mag, some not. Of the 7 I have, I only had to shave a small amount off of one. Easy work on a mounted belt sander and finished off with some sandpaper. A double-cut file is supposed to be the best way to not ruin it.

Anyway; I’m excited to have some more mags that will allow me to enjoy this excellent .22 pistol now without worrying I’m going to ruin the factory mag (I only have one).

Short video for any interested.

For them work in the Colt Woodsman, I’ve found you need to build up the floor plate in front of the mag tube to prevent over insertion.
