P226 Stainless Elite: brass to face

Greetings- I just bought a P226 Stainless Elite. I have over 20,000 rounds through my P226 Legion with only one failure to feed (with reloads no less).

I'm experiencing brass to face with the Elite with all manners of ammo: reloads, factory, 115 gr, 124 gr., +P ....etc.

It was erratic for my first trip to the range with about 200 rounds through it.

What do you think??? Give some break-in time? New extractor? New ejector?

thanks for taking the time. Yeah....I'm trying to "sell myself" in not having to do that.....time related issues.

This would be my vote as well. I don't mind buying and swapping parts to figure out a problem on a used gun, but if it's new, let Sig do it on their dime.

In my opinion any of of your suggestions would work. IE new extractor, new ejector, or further break in. I did at one time have the same problem with a Sig P220 but it resolved itself after a break in period. I had sent it in to Sig but it came back still not right and then all of a sudden everything just worked and still has for the past eleven years. But to be on the safe side, I would send it in to Sig just in case.

Send it back. Bet it is the extractor tension.

Gray Guns has a way cool video of how their extractor functions. Every case gets ejected perfect to the 3 o'clock position. I bet they casings pile in a neat cluster on the ground.

thanks all. I spoke to Sig service yesterday. They were "confident" it is a break-in issue. I'll give it a go and see if it gets better.

I'm experienced at adjusting extractors on 1911's and I've remedied this issue with a Glock 17 (Apex extractor and HRED extractor bearing), but this is the first I've experienced this on a Sig.

I bought a P226 Elite Stainless a couple of years back. Brand new gun. The Extractor Tension Spring turned out to be the cause of my FTE problem I was experiencing. The gunsmith from the LGS where I purchased the Sig did mention that he had to replace several extractor springs on new 226's with heavier springs to get them functioning correctly. I know it is a small sample size but if breaking it in doesn't do it for you.....

good intel. Thanks for taking the time. I'll give that a shot if it doesn't straighten out. I don't like sending pistols back. First off it is a hassle of course but secondly, I enjoy working on them especially if it is only going to be a range/sporting gun.
