P250C-22 - A very pleasant and cheap surprise at a local pawn shop Login/Join

I stumbled on an Sig I couldn’t buy fast enough.
$200 out the door for an excellent condition P250C-22. That was as much as I was wanting to invest.
It was without the factory box and only one magazine but otherwise great.

I have always been intrigued with the P250 22lr because it is full sized and I am comfortable with the FCG setup. But, the lack of a last round hold open on the magazines was a deal breaker for me oj a rimfire pistol I would plan on putting a lot of rounds through. The aftermarket last round hold open magazine followers seem like an adequate solution even if they operate like the Yugo AK mags. It’s somewhat crude method but it works.

I’ve always seen these pistols online at a premium or in the 9mm-22lr conversion set ups.
Shippings and transfers always killed the deal.

I get to pick it up Monday and am looking for magazines now.
P250 22 magazines are Like all discontinued semi autos…you get a second hobby of hunting them.

Is $40.00 a magazine the going rate now?

This is my first 22 Sig since my CDNN bought Trailside.

Obligatory pics on Monday.

Here is a stock pic from online.

Nice!

The P250 is a well made pistol that is often overlooked.

I was able to find a German P250 and have had no issues throughout many years of fun.

I had one of those. I thought it would be a cool training platform for my duty gun, with cheaper ammo, but it had enough reliability problems that it just wasn't viable. I sank a lot of money into trying to get it to run, and did make a little progress, but ultimately traded it off on something else. Hopefully yours is better.

Only semi-related (no pun intended) as my P250 was a .380. It’s one of the autos that I really regret selling. It went to another George (who was much smarter than me as he retired as a USAF Colonel/06) who promptly died in FEB of the following year. Even though the .380 magazines had a spacer and didn’t look reassuring, I had zero problems with it in the maybe couple of boxes that I put through it. As far as I know, but I am not too bright, I don’t think there have been any P320-type problems reported in the P250’s. I would sure keep that little .22 unless it’s just a real jamamatic.

I've got one of those. I really like it. On a whim, I did this to it:

So far so good. It doesn’t like bulk Aguila but has no issues with quality boxed 22.

The lack of a last round hold open is annoying but not a deal breaker. My only real complaint is that the slide lock is extremely sensitive and can’t be positively engaged. Not a big deal for a .22. The huge bull barrel and LPA sights help keeping it on target. The recoil impulse is strange as the hammer takes up a lot of the recoil energy. It’s almost like a very strong GBB air soft pistol with the way it recoils. It’s a good modern companion to my Kadet. Apples to oranges but full sized 22s are always fun on the range.

I think adding a Wilson grip and the weight kit would help add some weight as well.
I never would have been interested in a centerfire 250 or 320 but it really works well as a rimfire.
It’s too bad SIG completely abandoned 22 kits for the 322.

I’m sorry to hear that. An unreliable 22 is about as frustrating as it gets in the range.

What issues did you have?
This one is still fresh with factory grease so all the springs are fresh.
I’m definitely going to stock up on factory recoil and extractor springs. I think everything in the fcg is standard P250.

I've got one. Did they ever make threaded barrels for it?

If SIG made them, they are as rare as hen's teeth. I did find an aftermarket alternative at Taylor Tactical supply. A plus over factory is that it doesn't have the backwards threads :-)

I had failure to feeds, short-strokes, and a TON of light strikes. New mag springs and better ammo took care of the feeding and cycling issues, but I never could get it to overcome the light strikes. I had a 9mm version of the P250 for a short time as well, and even it had light strikes. That weird hammer spring design that's nested into the hammer just doesn't seem to get the job done. I really wanted to like the platform, but got to a place where I just couldn't trust it.

I will be fixing the lack of last round hold open and capacity in the magazines with an aftermarket kit. I usually research things throughly but this was a “do you want it for $200 cash now?” situation.

They will get +2 capacity but also will have the last round hold open followers instead of the +2 followers. It was cool of the vendor to substitute the LRHO followers instead of having to buy extra parts. The kits also come with a plus power magazine spring which isn’t bad to have for discontinued magazines.

The LRBO follower is an interference design like the Beretta 1934 and Yugo AK magazines. Yes, the slide will close when they are removed and yes that will be slow. But, it alleviates dry firing oce a magazine which was my only serious concern with the gun.

The only other issue I have is the grip is a little small and lightweight with the poly magazines.

I think I’ll drop the $20 on the SS recoil rod for some extra weight up front.

The Compact-Medium grip module is a bit small for me so that’ll get upgraded with something heavier.
I didn’t plan on it but the whole 320 situation has made the used grip modules a bit cheaper.

500+ Round Update

It seems like this thing just runs and runs.
Minimags, Federal bulk (Walmart special) and Aguila Extra run well.

The P250C-Medium module was replaced with a current production P320 Compact - Large module.
It fits my hand perfectly now. I wear a large Mechanix glove for comparison.

The new grip module also resolved the issue with the slide catch not engaging the slide securely enough. The new P320 slide lock is nice and positive.

The only weird problem was that magazines would hang up on the magazine release when inserting them. After using a little force they load and eject just fine. The only feeding issue was with the last round of one of six magazines. After a few cycles it no longer hung up on the last round.

The last round hold up is still a problem.
I’m done getting magazines now that I have six to run and one still in the box.
I was waiting on securing them before upgrading the magazines to get +2 and the last round hold open.

I honestly wouldn’t have shown any interest in this P250 if it hadn’t fallen into my hands. The mags were $20-$40 shipped and the module was only $25 (score!)

So, for about $350 I have an Sig Sauer full sized 22lr pistol that is reliable.

I will add some pictures of the P250 with my factory Kadet pistol.

Full sized 22 pistols are starting to be my new focus.
