Sig P228. Bought it in the 90's. It was a W German one. If I had only held onto to it...

It is on a short list of guns that I regretted selling.

A Sig P230 in 1994. Sold it years ago like a moron.

Man, I can't even remember now, what my first SIG was. A P228 or P229 for sure, in the early 90s, at the time when the wonder nines were in full swing, and the .40 was the latest and greatest round that was supposed to solve the problem of the nine. Lol.

But, I do remember my very first gun, a Cold Mustang Pockelite, about the second half of the 80s.

I bought a P232 in December 2009. I still have it.

It was the most beautiful pistol I had ever seen.

I am kind of a late bloomer to firearms.

SP2022 in 9 mm purchased on St. Patrick’s Day in 2012.

Still have it and still shoot it occasionally.

P220, 1996.

I bought a GOTM Sig P239 at a rural dealer. It had not sold (this was "07) because it was finished in Rainbow Titanium. It was a .40. Over the years I found several others finished similarly. I sold them, with matching Kershaw knives, at auction last year. They were accurate, easy to clean, and very resistant to wear, BUT, they were so slick I had to carry them in thumb break holsters. They'd slip out otherwise.

Two tone nickel P220 around 1996. I’ll never sell it.

Assuming that they count, my first Sig was the Browning BDA in .45ACP in 1978. In the early 2000's, I bought a few more BDAs in 9MM and .38 Super. Once Sig launched the Elite/SRT models, I went bleepin' nuts buying P220s, P226s, P229s, and assorted other models. Of course, joining this great forum did nothing to curve my impulsive buying habits!

Early 90's, two friends, one was an Army Ranger that came home for Christmas with a P-220, that we shot and was sucked in. Friend number two is a sheriff deputy close to the same time of friend # one, duty pistol was a P-220. My first Sig was a P-230(380), then a few months later a P-220. Still have the P-220.

Of course it counts. It's a SIG Sauer manufactured gun. Browning was just the importer.

P228 in 1992.

First SIG was a late-production P210-6 Heavy Frame.

First SIG Sauer was a P229 that my father bought me in the mid-1990s.

My first Sig was a Sig P-220 Two-Tone in 1995 or so from police supply vender GT Distributors in Austin Tx. They were offering Officers a special
package deal.
The wife claimed it as hers after it got retired because the Department was swapping over to Glock Model 22's. I still get to fondle it now and then.
I loved it as a duty weapon and felt strongly that it was a better pistol than the Glock which took me almost a year to be able to shoot it to the same level as I was with the Sig P-220.

Late 80’s, P226 after they lost the military contract to Beretta. Being in the Marines, I bought a 92 but it was stolen in a burglary. Wasn’t really a fan of the Beretta, so replaced it with the P226.

I don’t own it anymore, sold it to a very well known person on this forum back in 2009 or so. Not sure if he still has it, but my guess is he probably does.


I’ve bought and sold lots of Sigs since that one. I’m a little ADHD when it comes to handguns have bought and sold a P239, P228, P229, P229 Equinox, P226ST (twice! ), P220ST, two P938’s, P320 (.45), and parted out three 9mm and another .45 P320’s.


Currently have a trio of SAO Legions (P220/P226/P229), P226 and 1911 TacOps, and a P229ST touched by the hand of Bruce himself as well as a few P320’s and a couple P365’s.


I’m done with the turnover, keeping all of these.

P229 in .40, maybe 8 years ago. Discovered that shooting D/A isn't as scary as it seemed, as that thing shot lights out. Woke me up to the concept of natural, inherent shootability of the "right" firearm design for my hands.

Moved on to a 9mm 229 after that, and then slid down the slippery SIG slope to others. Don't have that first P229 in .40, and don't regret selling it as I never liked .40, but I sure did like that pistol.

I’m pretty sure it was a W German P226 in 9mm, purchased used in the early 2000’s. There’s a slight chance it was a Sig GSR 1911 in 45ACP about the same timeframe.

Too bad you didn't try a .357SIG barrel in it first! I'm not a huge fan of the .40, but once I swapped barrels in my P229 to try .357SIG, it became a whole new gun to me... and I keep it stoked with .357 now; rarely do I switch it back to .40. Someday I may buy a Barstow 9mm conversion barrel for it, but since I have plenty of other 9mms, I just don't know if/when that will happen.

I traded a Co-worker my Remington 700 in .243 for a well used Sig P228 in 2003 or so. I foolishly traded it off and about three years later got a very nice P228 with box and papers in a trade soon after.
