The P228 / old P229(9) and the new P229(9) locking inserts revisited. When did SIG revise it again?
In our many previous discussions on here, it's always agreed upon, based on real experience, that, if you want to put a P228 or Legacy P229(9) upper assembly on a P229 (.40/.357/229-1) frame, you must also swap in the P228/LegacyP229(9) locking insert (LI) in order for the whole thing to reassemble and work. If you don't swap in that locking insert, it won't work.

So, that was the principle I was following, when I was making my P228 Legion SAO. But, I was just testing it out without swapping anything just to see if it works, and lo and behold, the P228 upper went on the P229 Legion lower with zero problem.. Again, there was no LI swapping. I was stunned. How is this possible? So, I looked closer at the Legion LI, and it definitely looks different than the 229-1 LI from the M11-A1 I had in the past. So, I decided to take it out a compare it to the P228/Legacy229(9) LI. You can tell that SIG had made some revision (see the arrows pointing to the elevated portions of the surface of the Legion LI). So, if you have a P229 LI with this revision, know that it will work for all the P228 and P229 (9) (Legacy or non-Legacy). No more worry about which one to get.

Here is the locking insert from my original M11-A1 from 2012 (known to not work with P228 or P229(9) Legacy upper):

Why must they keep changing it?

Little shorter with a longer feed ramp... maybe a design change for better feeding?
Although, I don't recall any feeding problems with the 229.

Kinda sums up Sig as a whole IMO.

I still love that nickel 228. It has to be one of the best looking pistols ever.

I really like your 228/229 sao

Very good info. Will a 229 XP slide work on a WG p228 with no add'l parts needed?

Correct. But, you must use the 229-1 barrel for that slide, and not the P228/old P229(9) barrel. This question was discussed recently in this thread, https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...0601935/m/5050009784
