Just got a SA Ronin lightweight commander sized 1911 in 9mm. Clean original lines, no rail.

Very nice, took it home, cleaned everything. Went to the range this morning.

Ran 100 rounds thru it, it had one hiccup but it was a reload and I hadn’t checked if it had been resized properly and it only took a tap on the slide to seat it fully. I keep a bowl of rounds I pick up and I fed it those along with the standard ball.

I was surprised at how little recoil it had. It has a standard GI recoil system, no recoil rods or double captive springs.

I like the sights, it has an orange fiber front sight. The rear one has 2 white dots, and with my aging eyes it was easy to see the dots even if they were slightly blurry.

I only have one complaint. It only came with one magazine. Apparently Springfield does that with them and I read online I’m not the only one upset about it. I remedied that and a package is on the way, should be here mid week.

I already have a kydex IWB holster and a Don Hume OTW leather holster that it fits perfectly.

Once I get the extra mags I’ll do some Bill Drills with it.

My wife ordered one of these through the First Line program about 4 weeks ago, still hasn't showed up yet. It's supposed to come with three mags though. As a retired officer, you're eligible for this program too. I'm pretty sure it was $629 through First Line.

I was debating over the 10mm Ronin or the 3.8 XDM Elite 10mm. I ended up ordering the XDM, which also hasn't showed up yet either. I'll probably order the 10mm Ronin through the same program in a few months.

I didn’t know SA had a program like that…well maybe I might need a second one as a back up

I’ve had the exact same 9mm Ronin since they first came out and it’s been 100% reliable thru about a thousand rds. I swapped out the trigger to a solid long and run a different set of thin grips than the originals. I like the long trigger with thin grips. I also took a file to the thumb safety to radius everything and also did the same to the slide release. The MSH was too sharp on the bottom for my likes so I also took the last row of checkering off while cleaning everything up. Overall I’m very happy with it, only gripe would be the sharp edges but all the parts I took the file and sandpaper too were stainless so they finished out nice. I think it was a good value when I bought mine, not sure where they are at price wise now. It does suck they only come with one mag, fortunately I had 4 other ones from an old Springfield GI that is in 9mm.

Enjoy. I think Springfield's Ronin is the best "bang for the buck" in sub-$1k US-made factory 1911s. (Though if we include non-US-made, then the Tisas guns from Turkey give them a run for their money.)

My neighbor has one and was having trouble with accuracy so I shot it.. rear sight need to be drifted but the trigger is very hard, squeeze and it would be stiff and then release all of a sudden...Just wondering how your guys like the triggers....

^^ I took it down to the frame and used brake cleaner to remove any gunk from the factory. Then I used a very good oil (my kiddo uses it on his oboe keys) on everything that moves.

Surprisingly there was some crud in the race for the trigger bow.

I’m ok wih the trigger, I know it’ll smooth out as I use it. Not liking that the trigger shoe is plastic. But I’ll give it a run for a while and see if I need to replace it.
