set of skills

Greetings,

As I am slowly starting to get back into the swing of things (I've largely been in family-duty hiatus for quite awhile), I thought I'd take a moment and throw this out there.

With the other 'big names' C&S doesn't seem to get the press other shops do...tho I think their Trident 1911's are very well thought out pistols, among others.

So in any event, several years ago (maybe 10+) I bought one of their Poly Dunkit kits (Poly meaning polymer safe). Basically for those that don't know, it's something of a 'secret sauce' in bucket for cleaning your guns. It's bluish in color, very slightly thicker than water, with a mild odor that doesn't really burn your nose hair out. Idea being something along the lines of you can dunk your gun in, remove, shakey shakey, and you're ready to go.

Is it that simple? I dunno, I've never done it that way. I usually field strip, wipe down, get most of the crude off, than dunk and clean with other stuff.

So what's the point?

Where I think it really shines is in two places.

A. When combined with one of the spray-out aerosol blaster cleaners like Breakfree, that leaves your gun bone dry. Particularly if you don't detail strip and want to get some form of lubricant/protectant in areas you can't really reach.

I've done this many times...it can be impressive how much grit and residue washes out of your frame and/or slide with one of the aerosol cleaners. The dunking gets to the impossible to reach areas afterward.

B. If your firearms gets really soaked (shooting in the rain) or similar. If you don't detail strip, dunking can get some solution in all those hard/impossible-to-reach places.

So if you're not big on doing full-tear down/detail strips, it can be a helpful tool.

*Not affiliated with C&S*.

$.02 worth.

Despite some people's claims to the contrary, 5 lbs. is actually different than 12 lbs.
It's never simple/easy.
