Nothing else comes close: the most famous quote ever attributed to the Texas Rangers is “one riot, one Ranger.” Legendary Captain Bill McDonald (left) is usually credited with the saying. As the story goes, sometime during the 1890s there was going to be a prizefight in Dallas . . .or maybe it was West Texas . . . or possibly it was somewhere along the Rio Grande. We may not be sure of the exact location, but we are sure it was somewhere in Texas. Anyway, frantic citizens had put out a desperate plead for a company of Rangers to stop the fight. Imagine their shock when one solitary Ranger, often said to be McDonald, got off the train. Looking at the lone Ranger, the townsmen wanted to know when the rest of the company would arrive. Then came the legendary reply: “There’s just one prizefight, isn’t there?”

The Ranger badges are created from a Mexican cinco peso .900 silver coin. Early Rangers had to make their badges from this coin (or have them made by a jeweler). Current Rangers are issued a genuine silver badge created from the same coin, as well as a bronze badge for their ID case.
In recent history, the state tried to substitute a polished metal and enameled badge, but that idea didn't sit well, and they returned to the silver badge tradition.
The silver coin badge was mentioned in an episode of Justified, when Raylan went south to confront a Federale.
Perhaps SIG should make their challenge coin out of silver, to maintain genuine tradition.

I have the 1973 S&W Mdl. 19 .357 and the Texas Ranger Bowie set. I would like the SIQ Pistol better if it were a P-220 .45 ACP.

Blasphemy, These are what the Rangers are carrying.
Pictured borrowed, but was actually posted by a Ranger, they are his pistols, one for Comp, and one duty.
On a side note, I have retextured the grips on at 4 Ranger Staccato pistols as well, replacing the factory texturing.

No self-respectin' Texas Ranger would carry anything but a 1911 in 45. Or maybe a .44 Smith & Wesson...

I've never seen a ranger carrying anything but a 1911. I have heard of one who carries an SVI.

Am not up on what the Texas Rangers now currently carry but I'm just having a problem picturing the new Sig P320 being a 'Ranger' gun.... probably just me. Nothing against the p320, I own one and like it... just does't fit my view of a man riding tall in the saddle into trouble.

A ranger of my acquaintance carries a Wilson Combat 38 super or the issued Springfield TRP. Actually I stand corrected, he bounces between a Stacatto P DUO with a Delta Point Pro and a G45. He says they are issued a P320 but very few of the Rangers carry them.
