I've read a bunch of the flashlight threads, but I can seem to find an answer to my question.
I'm taking a handgun night shooting class later this year. It requires both a weapon mounted light and a handheld light. I have a weapon mounted light, but I don't know what I should be looking for in a handheld light that would be used while shooting a handgun.
Does any one have any recommendations or advice? I'm leaning towards Surefire, because my weapon mounted light is a x300, but they have a bunch of options. I'm willing to consider anything you guys recommend.
What do you guys think? I appreciate any help you can provide.

I prefer Streamlight, while there are other very good options Streamlight has created several videos that might help you understand what features are helpful and why...
I'm a Fenix fan, so I'll recommend their PD32 or PD35 lights. Both have a very effective strobe feature that is paramount in a defensive flashlight.

A proper nighttime class with a handheld light should teach you all the different methods of holding and shooting with the light.
The SF G2Z and G2ZX gives you right light to do, effectively, all the techniques.

Used to be a Surefire fan, but have found streamlight to be as good or better at a lower price. I also like that some models I have can use either the cr123 or aa interchangeably

You're going to get a million answers. Get something bright with a tail call switch that has momentary switching. Everything else, including constant on, is not necessarily required.
I would consider the Streamlight Polytac or HLX and Surefire G2, G2Z, or 6P as safe bets.

Last class, I took my PD32, this was before the PD35 was added to the Fenix lineup.

Have you considered contacting the school/instructor and seeing what they suggest for the class?

I did contact him. I was given two options:
1. Pistol with weapon mounted light. Light compatible holster required.
2. Pistol with handheld light of my choice. Holster for the light on the weak hand side.
While I have a weapon mounted light, I don’t have a holster. I’ve looked at around the internet and couldn’t find one that accommodates my pistol and light combination. Therefore, I’m going with option number two. He didn’t have a specific recommendation on which light to use.
