First stippling butchery attempt
Well,,,,,, I finally accrued enough grip modules that I was willing to sacrifice one to the stippling gods. It is a subcompact small. I demolished a 20 round pmag experimenting with tips, pressure, noxious plastic fumes (small fan blowing them away was genius, thanks interwebz). I always cringe at these threads. The Mengala-ish destruction wrought by a simple wood burner is amazing to me. And yet it draws me in as well.

I would never, and I do mean never, do this this one of my Glocks. I tried it merely because grip modules can be replacedeasily. Eventually or supposedly.

I am not happy with the aesthetic value of this effort. I think I am on the right track but my technique is off. I think I know what tip I am looking for now and when I find it my remaining grip modules shall tremble.

That being said, ugly or not, this mod turned this slippery little devil into a much more tacky, surefooted machine. I like it. I would like it better if I was better at making it less ugly. But, at 30ish bucks a pop I will continue my efforts.

I finally tracked down two Compact Smalls which are perfect for my hand. My goal is to get decent enough to try my craft out on those unicorns (that I can't replace anytime soon, thanks Sig). So on to the pictures. I got thick skin (unless dr dao comes up)so comments and criticisms, tips etc are all welcome.

Not bad for a first try! It looks real grippy too!

Are you going to wear gloves with that?

Ha ha. It looks more aggressive than it actually is. I hit it lightly with 400 grit sandpaper to take off the sharp stuff. I looked at that backstrap picture again and it does look really painful. It isn't. Texture wise it is right in my wheelhouse.

That looks pretty good.

I do a lot of stuff myself, subjectively you see the flaws and things you wish were done better, but objectively it looks just fine.

One thing that would make it look better is changing the border from small stipples to a line. Not sure how hard that would be though.

I thunk they look great! You are probably more critical on yourself than you would be on someonelse if you had bought them that way.

I practiced on some ar-15 grips, as I had a couple from prior builds, as is a cheap way to hone your technique.

That's similar to the stippling pattern I applied to two of my three P320 pistols. Mine is less organized than yours, however. You did well.

Rather than practicing on a hard to find and getting more expensive grip module, buy some ABS plastic sheets (AMAZON) to practice your technique.

I think it looks great, also. In fact, first thing I said to myself was, "Wow, is that a factory stippling job?"

I like the plastic sheet idea. Thanks.

if you build ARs like me, you probably have several old A2 grips lying around in your odd parts pile. i used those to practice my stippling skills.

I think that looks pretty damn good! I may send you one of my guns to stipple! Wink

I'd be happy with that, especially for your first go 'round.

Well I took some advice. Tried to make the outline a line vice a bunch of dots. Added an index point for my trigger finger. Thanks for the suggestions guys. Appreciate it. Pete.
