Came across a Beretta M9A1 in great shape. Thing is the frame is blue but you really can’t tell it is very very dark blue.
From arms length looks just the same as the slide but bring it in close the frame is actually a really really deep blue.
Very hard to notice. I did not take the gun apart so could not really tell if it was a Cerakote job. Seems pointless to spend money to have it done because it is that dark.
Did not get to snap any picture and even if I did I am not sure one would be able to tell.
I’ll probably end up buying it because I have always wanted some sort of 92 and had planned on an INOX but this looks really good.
Could not find anything about blue frames.

Sounds like something from this thread:

Sadly, no one really settled on what happened, only that it happened.

Similar though in the pictures in that thread the blue is far more pronounced than what I saw today.
Though sounds like he was using some professional camera lighting.
I think it looks pretty slick so I’ll go pick it up tomorrow.

Intentional or not, I actually really like the look of that.

It looks 1000 times better in person.
The flash, I presume, make it look very glossy. At least the one I saw was more matte. Does not look blue until you really start to look at it.

Was it an Accokeek, MD gun or a Gallatin, TN gun?

Maybe the anodizing was blue that day, but not weird enough to make them reject it.

It doesn't look bad. I don't love it, but the gun will shoot fine.

Many of those people on the Calguns thread were talking about actual bluing of steel. Bluing can come out in a range of deep blues, purplish plums, to black.

These Beretta frames are anodized aluminum. Anodized aluminum can be almost any color because it is, essentially, dyed after the aluminum is anodized. I'm guessing the anodizing was bluish for a run of guns. Maybe it was a mistake, maybe it wasn't.

I am not sure. I’ll post some pics after I buy it tomorrow.

My 92X Compact RDO has a grayish/bluish almost purple tint to the frame anodizing. I would prefer a black that matches the slide, but it's not that big of a deal to me. The gun shoots awesome, has a fantastic trigger, and lives up to the Beretta reputation for reliability.

I've seen some Beretta Fusion that color/shade but didn't have a rail. Very curious.

Seems like these came from the factory this way.
Any idea what sort of solution would cause this after being anodized?

I have 2 92X's. A compact and a centurion. They both exhibit this blueish gray finish but to different degrees. I actually prefer it, it looks very good to my eye. My Compact looks just like 92fstech's. Mine has the TJIAB though with the spurless hammer and a better baseplate on the mag lol.

Yeah, old picture....that baseplate is gone now. It was unnecessarily long.

I like it! It's definitely different, in a good way.

My 92X had a bluish purple frame. It was very dry and turned black when I oiled it.

Will have to pull my M9A1 out tomorrow to look; the Calguns thread has me wondering given mine is a fairly early Gallatin made item.

One of the Bos’n Mates at station Hatteras used straight simple green on several M9s…took the finish off all the frames. IIRC he’s the same guy who rolled a RHIB (rigid hull inflatable boat) in the surf and destroyed it to the tune of $50k

He said he left it soaking in the simple green overnight. He only lost a stripe for the damage to the guns. I can’t remember what they did to him after rolling the boat. But six months later he didn’t show up for firearms training and I never saw him again.

Snagged it today and best I can tell it’s a 2017 or 2018 gun that has not been fired.
It is a Tennessee made gun. I’ll try to snap some pics a little later.
Came with 3 mags.
