I'm not really happy with the grips on my new DW Specialist 9mm. Can anyone suggest some wood grips that will fit with the mag well funnel?

Check with Altamont for reasonably priced grips. They will finish the grips for a mag well cut.

Armorer's Supply is currently blowing out their remaining stock of Herrett's wood grips at $9.99 each.

They're decent quality, especially considering the ridiculously low price! They're equivalent quality to other factory wood grips like Fusion, Raasco, or Altamont. But not nearly as nice as something much fancier/pricier like Sarge's or Esmerelda's.

There are a couple styles left with the flat magwell cut, but they're both smooth with no texture.

They also have a few styles of thin grips with the magwell cut. Just note that the Specialist comes from the factory with standard thickness grips, bushings, and screws. If you decide you want to switch to thin grips, you'll need to install thin bushings and screws. And the edge of the standard magwell will protrude slightly past the sides of the thin grips. (Personally, I prefer thin grips, even with my big hands, but they're not for everyone, especially considering the extra associated cost and effort of switching.)

Hogue offers wood 1911 grips for both Standard and Magwell. Smooth or textured. Come on in and check them out

If your Specialist is stock you should look at the top of the right-side grip...with the way DW treats the ambidextrous safety on the Specialist model the right grip is cut to the mirror image of the left grip to fit around the arc made by both side’s safeties when they’re operated.

So even if you have the correct magwell cut at the bottom you may find some interference at the top on the right side. Or you may not, depending on how the particular grip is cut.

VZ, which makes the stock grips for DW, told me to email them after I order any grips for my Specialist and ask them for the DW Specialist ambi cut and they’d do that...note that this not one of the listed VZ options for the ‘ambi cut’ that puts a slot at the back of the grip to accommodate some other brands’ ambi safeties..
