This is a bummer for sure. Hopefully another shop will pick up the slack....

I just took my Compact to my 'smith for the installation of the CGW spring kit and an action job. This shop has done one Sphinx before and is known for its custom 1911s and all pistols trigger work.

After I play guinea pig, I'll report back on how the work was and if the shop wants more Sphinx business.

My trigger is at 11.8# and 5.8 # DA/SA respectively. The SA break is extreme crisp, and I was surprised that it was actually that heavy. The DA weight didn't surprise me at all.

Very good bullet though....

So accuracy has no place in self defense?

Sure, but expansion is important too, and the Xtreme HP's that Freedom uses don't expand. Freedom states in the item description that the bullet is designed for target and match use, not self defense or LE usage.

I can't seem to find the item description that says they are for "target and match use, not for self defense or LE usage" - can you tell me what part of the website to find this? I know you are probably correct that they are more for accuracy as hollow points seem to be more accurate in my guns. I'm just guessing here as I have never seen any info to confirm this, but I suppose the shape of the hollow point bullets engage more rifling and get better accuracy that way. I have ordered some of their XTP hollow points as I'm reading on the net that XTP rounds have been around for a long time and are known as an accurate round with consistent and acceptable expansion. I used to not be concerned with longer range accuracy, but the recent terrorist attacks got me to thinking about the possibility of engaging targets across a parking lot or across the food court at the mall. I know the likelihood of me being involved in such an event are miniscule, but I subscribe to the interconnected theories of "prepare for the worst" and "it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it (longer range accuracy)."

It's a disclaimer at the bottom of the page of the 'new" 124g HPs.

I think you are on a much better track with the XTPs.

Pre,

I see you are selling your Compact. May I ask why as you have been such a staunch Sphinx fan and supporter?

H.A.L.O. SIGHTS SAID TO BE AVAILABLE!!!

From Sphinx's Facebook page with a January 16th date stamp:
*****************************************
Defiance H.A.L.O H3 Tactical Sights now available for the Sphinx SDP. For more info contact us at info@talosdefense.com
*****************************************

I just sent them an e-mail at the posted address asking for where available and cost.

Here's hoping this is for real, and I can stop my whining. If the sight are now actually available (excuse my lack of faith), my Sphinx Subcompact will be a near perfect carry pistol versus a great day time carry pistol.

BTW, the accompanying HALO video on the Facebook page that accompanies their post is 3 years old. Smile

Uh, sorry

Talosdefense.com, which posted on Facebook, is a company, seemingly a retailer, located on the Greek Island of Crete.

I thought this was a Defiance announcement, and therefore got all hot and bothered and didn't check carefully before the above post.

Sorry,

As many of us as want them, maybe we could charter a sailboat and head over for a case.

Besides the Greek Island of Crete, the sights can be found at 3 additional convenient locations.
Pago Pago, Little America and Skagway Alaska. Big Grin

Talos Defense from Crete had the terrific courtesy of replying to my e-mail. See below

Thank you for your communication,

We currently offer the HALO sights in Greece or any other country that does not have an import restriction.

We are currently in SHOT SHOW and the information we got from Sphinx on this matter is that they are still working on the import permit and the US government has delayed the permission.

You will have to be patient

Hmm...a hydraulic press or even a milling machine to remove pins in order to do a detail take down of the gun. I can appreciate high precision, but that's certainly overstepping things for the average gun owner who normally likes to work on their own guns...like me.

My DuoTone Compact is currently at my 'smith's for an action job (over due back to me), and I'll ask what his experience was. Good 'smith, great guy, so I'll get his complete take on the matter and report back here.

So the news from the Shot Show is that production has been shifted to the USA and that the Swiss factory is closing. I'm sure glad I got one of the original Swiss-made units. On the plus side, parts availability hopefully will not be an issue as it was with the earlier Sphinxes.

You have a link or other location for details? I haven't heard this and sure would like to follow up on it. Confused

Here's the link.

Also, if you go on the Kriss website and click on the Production and Subcompact models, it will say that they are made in the USA. The Compacts are still listed as Swiss-made for now.

I noticed that the Subcomapct Alphas are indicated (by the American flag) as being produced in the USA, but are unavailable at the present time. Are we to assume these are already being produced or just to expect them sometime in the future? It's kind of confusing as well as aggravating for those of us that own one of these pistols, have issues with them, and are unable to get any customer support.
