I have gone away from the 380 for anything other than a pocket, last resort, the gun for when I don't want to carry, (LCP in the back pocket for a quick run to the stop-n-rob.) However; if it has to be one of those two, the P232 is what I'd go with.

Better performing, and in my opinion, better looking too.

Interesting bionic218,

I had many PPK and PPK/s guns starting in 1965 (a war time PPK in 32 that I carried off duty). I retired in 1989 and bought a PPK in 1995. It must have been a S&W model because it was the worse one I ever had. I sold it and bought a 230 from a police supply shop in Lansing. I remember the sales clerk warning me that it would only feed ball ammo but mine fed everything. It was an all stainless model and I traded it in for something a few years later. I was immediately sorry I did that and tried to buy it back but it was already sold.

After I acquired a two tone alloy frame 232, a blued alloy frame 230, and the 230 in .32 acp mentioned above, I found a pristine 230 SL (all stainless) at a shop in Indiana for $375.00. I kissed the clerk [ Smile, Smile ] and he sent it back to Michigan for me. This was in 2018 so it took me a few years to correct my mistake of getting rid of my first one.

I've owned and sold/traded away my PPK/S and P232s. I was never satisfied with the .380 for defensive purposes. If I were purchasing again, I'd go with the current production Walther. Parts and magazines should be plentiful in the years ahead. I appreciate the external hammers and thumb safety/decockers both models provide. The absence of manual safeties on modern small, concealable IWB pistols is regrettable.

If this is merely a decision of the heart, get the Walther. It is way more iconic, way more cool, way more everything but practical or reliable. The Sig is better but as you know, there are way better choices than either in 380. If the heart wants what the hearts wants though, you gotta go PPK, PP, PPK/S.

My 232 two tone with G-10 grips is still carried to this day. It sported a set of 230 grips until I ordered the G-10 grips to try. I never liked the 232 grips.

The “Fort Smith” PPK/S is the best Walther I have ever owned in the last 55 years. It has the best DA or SA trigger pull, it will feed any ammo (fmj or hp defense) and is very accurate. If I had to have thar style of gun for defense, and could not find a Sig 230 or 232, the new PPK/S gun from Walther would be on top of my list.

I will say this for it: nice to look at and hold. And it has the only LCI that I actually like: the BG can’t see it, but I can. And in the dark I can sense it with my thumb without shifting my grip.

I realise that you’re jonesing for a PPK/S or P232, but my SIG P238 is so much better. Yeah, I’m a SAO guy…

Thanks for that info. I won the bid on a P232 on GB with Crimson trace laser grips. Can't wait until it gets here. I'll have to check out the p238. Smile

Congrats on your incoming SIG p232. They're fantastic little guns and are just a classic SIG.

Do be aware that they can be know for "slide bite". So be very aware on how you grip your pistol.

I picked up this P232 a couple months ago. Came with 2 mags, case, manual and the Hogue rubber grips I replaced with the Hogue wood grips. Got it for $350ish.

Got a holster and mag holder and carry it occasionally.

Agree that's a killer deal. Hell the factory mags are running $100 a pop if you can find them.

And I thought they were outrageous when I bought some for $50 each about 15 years ago.
