I'm doing something wrong I would imagine and since a lot of people have a red dot on their pistols now, I'll pick your brain.
Wasn't looking to buy another pistol but with a hefty tax return (overlooked credits), I bought a Walther PPQ Q4 Tac. I miss my old PPQ and decided I wanted a nice one.
Anyways, I also purchased a Vortex Venom 3 moa for it and had it put on.
Government holiday so I'm off. I took the pistol to my backyard and set up my table, chair and pistol rest.
I wanted to get it on paper first so I had the target set out about 10 yards. Fired 5 shots and none hit the target. Looked and the were WAY low. Adjusted a bit up and fired 5 more shots. Still low.
This went on for a few 5 round strings until I couldn't adjust up anymore on the Venom. I finally got to the point where I was holding on the top of the target to land in the center. Windage was surprisingly on.
What did I do wrong? I was going to move out to 25 yards but got frustrated and stopped. Had the Vortex manual supplied with it and and it says, "Using arrows for reference, adjust dials in the direction you wish the group to move".
I don't think the Vortex is bad but maybe? Or just inexperienced me?

I own that optic on a CZC mount on a CZ TSO. It operates flawlessly and at point of aim. It took very little work to zero.

I would look at the mounting plate to ensure what I'm calling the little round "seating lugs" are set correctly. Make sure the sight sits flat on the base.

At least that is where I would start.

Pics would make it easier to diagnose. Smile

Had similar experience just a year ago. Not enough elevation adjustment. I sent it back under warranty and very promptly received a new one, probably took a week all told. The replacement has been flawless. I liked their customer service.

I had the same problem on a P320 X5 with a Vortex Venom

Looks to be sitting on the mount correctly.
I'm kinda disappointed that 2 replies in this thread had the same problem.
I have not disassembled it at all. I'm almost thinking it may be the Venom.

From the pic, it looks like it is set up right and straight.

All I can tell you is mine works flawlessly and is similarly configured.

I hate to say it, but I'm leaning about 20% or so toward it being the sight itself, now. Replacing the optic is a pain, but Vortex is famous for their replacement/repair policy and customer service. I believe they still guarantee for life.

Keep us posted.

I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and explain what's going on.
From the sound of things, I shouldn't have a problem.

Had no issues mounting mine on a Springfield XDM OSP. Was very close to being on. Needed slight elevation adjustment. Vortex customer service is really great. Give them a call.

Same here, had one that I could not get adjusted to center, called Vortex, shipped off and less than a week later had a new one back.

Just installed one on my Glock 34 Gen 5. I zero’d at 10yds, 500 rounds later, everything is still tight! It’s spot on! I will vouch for Vortex CS, the UP button didn’t work on mine, right out of the box. Emailed them, they sent me return info and shipping label. Communicated well throughout and sent me a brand new working unit. Although if brand new units weren’t defective out of the box, maybe they wouldn’t need ace CS. Wink

Among the steel shooters the consensus is that Vortex has subpar QC, but superior CS. Because about half of them have a story about the Vortex Venoms, including me.

I agree, they should spend a bit more on QC and that would reduce the CS cost, shipping, returns etc if it's at the volume level we presume.

Typically we see the complaints about issues with products and not the positive results of delivered without issue since those folks aren't complaining...

Slight thread drift, but could the OP measure the slide cuts on the Q4 with a micrometer (if possible) and either post them or send them to me? Walther won't sell the slides, and I literally have all the other parts, so I'm reduced to having my slide milled locally.

I had the same problem with the Vortex Venoms. I had two mounted with EGW mounts. One on a Sig P320 and one on a Canik SFL . They both shot between 4-6 inches low with max elevation on the Venoms.

I purchased a DPP mount on Amazon and installed that on the Canik SFL and it works fine now. The other one went on a CZ P10F and it hits POA with max elevation with no wiggle room for further adjustment.

I googled the Venoms and it seems like Vortex messed up with this one. A lot of people are having problems with not having enough adjustment for elevation.

Mine is out right now and I should have it back in a week or so. I'm gonna give it another go and if it doesn't work, I'll go for a different red dot.
Something tells me I should have splurged for the Trijicon.

The Venom indeed does have a problem with the elevation set screw.
I am very impressed with the CS of Vortex and they are shipping me a new one back. Should be here in a few days.
With that said, I have to see if the new Venom will work correctly. If it doesn't, I guess it's refund time and I'll go Trijicon.
