That's a good question. Checking KelTec's website, I find no user manual. Checking youtube, I find no user reviews as of yet.

It may be that after pushing the rounds down in the magazine and discarding the stripper clip, the shooter can push down on the ammunition column while releasing the slide lock, allowing the slide to ride over the top round, thus leaving the chamber empty.

As to the internal magazine design- I have a feeling that if we were able to survey all those people who carry a firearm for personal defense, we would almost certainly find that most of them do not carry spare ammunition. If so, this means that most people are carrying between five and sixteen rounds.

If you accept my logic, this means that the PR57 puts the non-'gun guy' user at an advantage in terms of capacity, over most anything else they might choose to carry, and the lack of detachable magazines, allowing for quick reloads, is inconsequential.

I suspect that KelTec has put more thought into this pistol and its intended market than people might think. It may very well be that KelTec chose the 5.7 specifically to give the PR57 its high capacity just for the reasons stated above. They certainly did not choose the 5.7 cartridge for its economy. KelTec seems to understand that those who are likely to carry this pistol are the kind of people who buy two boxes of ammunition when they purchase their gun- one box to shoot through their new pistol and one box to load for carry, and won't be purchasing ammunition by the case.

Been wanting a 5.7 for quite a while, the price of the firearm options has been dropping, ammo not so much, this ticks the box at Sub $400 and the rotary barrel is interesting.

Guessing this is the pre-SHOT marketing program, saw on InstaFace where they were talking it up for it's initial intro at SHOT.. Soon after we'll see the plethora of InstaFaceToob video reviews, gotta get the clicks!

Their web pages rollout in Q1, which is gunspeak for, right after or around SHOT, to maximize attention and sales.

Having 20 rounds of lightweight fire power sounds good, and it appears to overcome the difficulty for many aging gun owners of racking the slides on highly sprung micro 9's, that is if it's easily done as is the case with my KelTec PMR30. We even have an active thread on cocking revolvers being difficult as we either age or have maladies that exacerbate the problem

As soon as I can looking forward to getting one of these, no 5.7 isn't cheap, but like Para said, couple of boxes downrange and one to carry isn't out of the norm for many carry pistols.

Did you watch the video in the first post?

In addition to it's primary intended role, I can see the PR57 as a great choice for a survival kit.

Twenty rounds of 5.7 (40 grain bullet) weighs a bit less than four and a quarter ounces.

This means a loaded PR57 weighs approximately 18 ounces. An additional 20 rounds of ammunition loaded into two polymer stripper clips would weigh about five ounces. The pistol and 40 rounds of ammunition weigh less than a pound and a half.

I’m thinking about buying one of these things to carry in Colorado, if the loons running that state pass their ban on all semi-autos using a magazine. (If I correctly understand their proposal)

Twenty rounds of 5.7 ain't hay, and with the proper holster, this air-weight pistol would make for easy carry.

I thought I read it had a Double-Action type trigger, which I prefer, however I can always be wrong and we will all see when it comes out. God Bless !!!

Literature says 4.5 lbs, but we will have to wait until SHOT range day to hear how it feels. I see no manual safety, grip safety, or trigger dingus.

Kel Tec should offer them in pairs at an even more attractive price.

The Kel Tec New York Reload Package.

With optional paired holster combos.

It does have kind of ambidextrousless controls to begin with.
