So the lamest was, "I have a really nice set of walnut round butt N-frame grips and I need a revolver to put them on..."

Now the second lamest, finally have a console vault in the Jeep after being on backorder for over a year. So feeling better about having a dedicated, "Truck Gun" again. So grab my Smith M&P Pro Series in .40S&W that's served that role for years. It's Firearms Tetris getting the thing in and out of the opening in the console vault. It has to be rotated just so and angled just right to get it in and out. There is no such thing as a quick draw from the console.

Started test fitting various different firearms and holsters to see what works. Basic conclusion is a G19 sized pistol in a minimalist holster is the largest that will fit.

So here's my criteria:

- Small enough to fit in through the opening in the console vault.

- Bigger than 9mm.

- Polymer frame so I won't be afraid of it getting scratched up in the console.

- Easy enough and common enough to replace if needed.

So now it looks like I, "Need" to get a Glock Gen 5 G29.

Sounds like an excellent reason to me! Honestly, once you have your general gun needs covered, everything else is about filling a specific niche or role, and you just found a valid one for a G29 Big Grin.

Looking forward to your review, especially because you can offer a first-hand comparison/contrast to the M&P10. Hopefully this one is better than that one was!

My lame excuse is that I have a holster but no gun to fit it!

Do we need excuses to buy 10mm Glocks? I like the g29 gen4 I've got. It is surprisingly versatile. With a threaded barrel, the ballistics are similar to a Glock 20. It can also take 15 round magazines with a grip adapter.

What I found when I have actually carried it is that it carries easier than an HK p2000 IWB.

I bought my very first .380 ACP because I had a 50 round box of WWB and no gun to shoot them with.

Are there any pragmatic efficacy differences between the 20 and 29 for critters, up to a bear? Or are ballistics, etc (for hard cast) effectively the same?

The 20, for me, is large and heavy for carry in the wild. But it handles well - no issues w/ recoil.

What would one expect in terms of efficacy and handling with the 29?

If I could own only 1 semi auto it would probably be a G29.

This video has some real world gelatin testing and some video of what you should expect in terms of recoil. The g29 handles recoil well for its size, but if you shoot hotter hard cast you'll feel a difference with the shorter grip.

Thanks. 29 may be something to consider for the future.

My buddy Chuke made a video comparing the Glock 20, 29 and 40 on a chronograph. The 29 was roughly 35fps slower than the 20.

I've got a Sig XTEN and XTEN Comp that I carry in the wild. Unfortunately neither one will fit in the console vault of the Jeep. The recoil of the 29 is tough to handle with with the standard length mags, I'll definitely be adding either the Pearce pinky extension or 2 round extension to get a better grip on the gun.

In that case, why not get the 20? Or is it still a better fit, especially barrel-wise despite the mag extension? In that case, perhaps that's what I'll look into as well.

Went to the range today to close out 2024. Usually take 3 handguns each time I go to enjoy the variety of what I've accumulated. My Glock 29 is a constant as it's my woods carry and I want to be proficient with it. Fun to shoot with Underwood ammo. It's an excellent handgun, I'd say buy it.

That's really not too bad a price to pay for the improved portability of the 29. Honestly, I was surprised that he was coming in under 1200fps with the long-slide 40...that short barrel on the G29 is wringing out a surprising amount of the energy.

Looking at my own load data he's coming in right between heavy .357 Mag and .44 Mag with those numbers (pretty close to the .357 with the G29), which ain't bad at all.

What’s better than a G29… two of them. I use mine as a woods carry gun and have had it forever it seems. Not many rounds but a lot of holster wear. A few weeks ago I ended up with a basically brand new one with only a box of ammo through it. My brother was clearing his collection out so grabbed it. Still have no clue what to do with it.

Time to look at Underwood for ammo.

For ME:
DA/SA=Sig 9mm or HK P30 LEM 9
Striker fired= Glock 9mm
If it's a .45= 1911
Suppressed= HK in .45
I like anything in 10mm
