Thanks for all the input. I have been unable to find a 30S locally to at least "feel it," and I don't want to buy one online, then find out it is not for me.

I have never been recoil sensitive, but those who noted the recoil struck a nerve. When the Glock 36 came out, sometime in the 90s, IIRC, I bought one. The 36 felt good in my hands, seemed to be a perfect size, but the recoil of it made shooting it plain uncomfortable, I sold it after trying it out several times. Later, I bought another-same result. About 3-4 years ago, I got a third one and, sure enough, it still bothered me to shoot it.

I'm thinking the 30S may (or probably will) do the same thing, so I am gonna pass on it. With the arthritis in my hand, it seems like a pretty sure bet it will be a no fun gun,

Funny, but the 1911 .45 never bothers me.

Thank you all again for the information.

Bob.

Just to clarify I am NOT recoil sensitive in traditional ways. .357 J Frames are not a big deal, I don’t like .44 magnum but it’s not that bad to shoot and I’ve shot my share of “stupid guns”

It’s not that the recoil in and of itself is bad in the 30s for me it’s just how it channeled through my grip. It didn’t induce pain or discomfort per se but was fatiguing which in turn caused me to get sloppy quickly etc.

It had always bugged me and I felt like I was the odd man out and I am glad to hear I am not the only one. If you had a similar feeling with the 36 then unless you can try the 30s I would not buy.

Now like I said above. I actually loved the 30(fat/normal/husky/big boned whatever Razz) model. So you might want to give that a try.

Thanks, Cslinger.

I've actually had most all of the other 30 Glocks, no problems with the way they shot, but all were just too big/heavy to carry. was thinking maybe the 30S would work. But, you are right, if I can't find one to try first, it would be foolish to buy one hoping for the best.

I didn’t see it mentioned, but is it correct that the Gen 4 version (without the included blackstrap) is basically the same as the 30s?

The 30S is my EDC. I carry it in an IWB hyprid holster with no problems. I find it conceals better then my G19 due to the shorter grip.
If you're ever over in the Pensacola area let me know and you can try mine out.

No. The G30 Gen 4 with no backstrap installed is the same dimensions as the G30SF. That is, a slightly slimmer frame than the standard Gen 3 G30.

But it doesn't have the slightly thinner/rounded slide of the Gen 3 G30S. It retains the boxier slide like the Gen 3 G30/G30SF.

I wouldn't consider it a fun range gun, to me it's only if you want to carry 45 over something else. Mine hasn't been shot in a couple years and if selling guns was easier in NY I wouldn't have it anymore. I like it enough but don't carry it anymore so I don't get it out to shoot anymore.

I have the 30sf and my nephew has the 30s. I can’t tell any deference in recoil. With arthritis in my hands I no longer use the 30sf. I have a top of the line IWB and OWB holsters. I believe in karma so if any one has a need for one let me know.

I have a Glock 17,19,and a 21 and while i would carry them in a SHTF scenario they're not my favorite, they just dont feel comfortable in my hand and while shooting.I thought maybe a 30 would change my mind, so money in a clenched fist i ran to the gun show and to the glock table, picked up a 30 and thought "Man as much as i dont like the 21 i hate this even more"
