The earliest 17rd Glock PMAGs did have a problem with the design. When running those mags in shorter magwells (G19, G26), those guns would sometimes develop failures to feed issues. Magpul released a remolded magazine body for customers that bought those early mags, of which I have four of those.

At the time I had only used two of the problematic mags, and did not experience any stoppages with them in a G19 and G26, but if I recall correctly I only ran about 100-150 rounds through each of them at the time. I did receive the revised mag bodies and out of due diligence replaced each of old mag bodies with the new design. Those mags to date have run without issue in all of my 9mm Glocks and in my Glock-pattern AR-9 and a bud's Ruger PC Carbine. Average is at least 1500 rounds through each of those, I'm guesstimating.

That said, I still prefer using factory Glock mags over the aftermarket products. Over the years I have managed to accumulate a ton of those for each of the calibers I have Glocks in. But if I had to rely on the Magpul magazines, I feel pretty confident that they got it right.

I use G19 & 26 Pmags extensively. They’ve been flawless.

I always read KCI issues could be solved with a new mag spring. That being said my KCI’s are G17 mags that I use in my G34. Never had an issue so I never swapped springs. They do “seem” weaker than factory and there is definitely more extra flashing on some but I haven’t had any issues. If I do them I will change out some springs and I bet they would be perfect again. I say buy some, becacause I got mine dirt cheap.

I bought some KCI 17 rd 9mm mags about 10 years ago. They function fine, with 1 exception: the base plates are made of a weak plastic. Drop a full or near full mag on the rocks and it will explode. I had several mags unload themselves from the bottom before I changed out all the base plates for Glock parts.
No problems, since.

"The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with." -Douglas Adams

Where is such a deal? I have not found them for less than $24.99 without shipping and taxes. My LGS (largest in the area with very high civilian and LEO sales... probably largest in the state) has them for $34.99.

If I could get them for $22 each, I would do that for at least some of them.

All...

Thanks for your responses and for those of you who have contacted me via e-mail. It is very much appreciated.

I believe at this time I am going to by a few factory mags for each the G19 and G17 AND a few of the PMAGs for each as well.

Again... Thank you very much!

You need to look around and keep your eyes open. I have more Glocks mags then I care to admit and at least 90% of them I got for $20ea or less. I find classified sections of gun forums to be the place for these deals and sometime you have to buy in bulk. Just this last week there was a guy on another forum that was offering brand new Gen5 G17 mags for $20ea shipped if you bought 15 of them. Even if you don't need or want 15 of them so what, buy them anyway and sell some of them off at a profit meaning the ones you keep are even cheaper. Before all this craziness started Brownells use to sell 10 packs (G19 0r G17) for a little over $200. Its up to $249 now.

As far as factory Glock mags vs Magpuls... Glock mags are already stupid cheap IMO and are 100% reliable. Magpuls are cheaper (both in price and quality IMO) but they're not always 100% reliable. I get why some may feel the need to buy the cheaper Magpuls for range use only but not me. I only buy factory Glock mags.

I had several KCI mags for a G22. Left loaded in a gear bag for several months. The base plates failed on every one. That’s been ten years ago, maybe they have gotten better.

AIM surplus and Recoil both have surplus glock mags. My last purchase was 10 G22 mags at nine bucks each; they're police trade-ins. Three of the ten wouldn't drop free.

Side question...

I have a rifle that shoots 357 sig and takes Glock Mags... I bought a 9mm conversion kit for it just in case.... what 9mm Glock style magazines should I buy, none came with the conversion kit... just a barrel and a bolt.

9mm, .40, and .357 Sig magazines are the same size and take the same size frame and mag well. Therefore, if you're running G31 mags in your rifle, you can run G17 mags, or larger; any 9mm double stack glock mag should work fine, up to the 33 round magazine.

Glock makes some nice 24 round competition mags now that aren't quite as long and gangly as the 33 round, are manageable, and feed well, and have no difficulties loading. They function through the entire loaded range without getting to a spongy spring with the last few rounds. And, they should last...forever.

Factory Glock mags are proven and worth the price difference. Stock up before Bidet & Ho violate your rights.

I have one G19 Magpul mag and a couple of G17 ones. So far (probably several hundred rounds each) they've performed flawlessly. It is a tad harder to get the last round or two into them, but Mr. Maglula takes care of that problem. That said, I only use them at the range. On the occasions when I feel like carrying the 19, I use factory magazines. Mostly because, "why not?".

If you had no other choice but to use the PMAGs, how much heartburn would it give you?

I would definitely run the PMAGs through some testing. Try a full mag or three in your pistol and see how it does. No Hang-up? Go the mag#2 and repeat. Again for mag#3. If they all work well, don't sweat it!

Burn up $20.00 worth of ammo to save $6.00 on a magazine. Factory Glock magazines are a bargain, IMO.

I have to admit I don’t drop drop fully loaded mags onto the ground. I’m sure it happens at times accidentally but even in matches with mandatory reloads it’s still not a fully loaded one. Administrative loading/unloading doesn’t involve dropping either so I guess I will just have to take your word for it. I have dropped plenty of empty and partially full KCI mags onto gravel without issue though. If they are cheap enough I would buy them. They used to be like 6-8 bucks a mag and I bought a bunch. If they are only 6 bucks different I would stick to OEM as well.

I like the 12rd Pmag in my Gen3 G26. I have two, and they have been faultless. At the same time I ordered those, I bought a 21rd Pmag, just for fun. It has also worked well, and I find it makes a handy G26 reload.
