So I have a small round piece designed to fit over a barrel and act as a harmonic balancer. What I would like to have done is get a short 11mm scope dovetail cut into it. Any ideas as to where I could possibly get this done?

Thanks much,
Chris

Check your local machine shop.

Depending on the competency of the machinist, an 11mm dovetail should be simple.

In my case, I couldn't find one worth using locally. The shops in Atlanta weren't very skilled.
The machine shop in Harlem, Georgia is nothing short of spectacular. Went from a sketch to prototype to finalized item in less than two weeks!

Good luck.

Any good machine shop can do this easily if you have enough material and can afford the cost. An alternative might be to just buy a piece of dovetail and drill and tap the round piece a project most could do themselves, but not sure of any dimensional constraints.

I had thought about the drill and tap but in my cursory look I couldn’t seem to find any small pieces of add on dovetail.

I'm guessing there is a source but I don't want to spend a bunch of time looking. My quick search showed 3/8" is at brownells and sometimes works interchangeably depending on what you are doing. Or picatinny of course is very easy to find and if you need a small piece I will send you one.
I see lots of stuff listed as 11mm dovetail in the celestial world but that might take some investigation to see if its the same. It looks in the pictures.
I also see lots of dovetail mounts for guns with drilled and tapped receivers that would seem easy candidates to adapt and cheap enough to venture a try.

I struck out taking a quick look for CZ or Baikal dovetail pieces (lots of 11m to Picatinny adapters, which obviously don't help).

FWIW, though, do you happen to know anyone with a bunch of old Russian parts? The Russian guns I have came with the dovetail machined in, but the Ruskies certainly seemed attached to the 11mm dovetail.

Only folks I know with a stash of Russian arms parts are the Ukranian Mafia but they are really only acquaintances. Smile

Seriously though I don’t have a lead on parts.

I appreciate all the feedback. This is just a back of the napkin thing in my head and likely far more trouble then its worth.

Thanks all,
Chris

Things like this seem to be fairly common.

Airgun front sight replacement. Easy enough just to scope just sort of thinking of a way to change out a front sight to a globe style.

Not something I am charging full steam ahead with just sort of feeling out.

Appreciate all the input.
