Earlier this year I bought an H&K full size 45 when H&K dropped the prices on some of their pistols. After firing 100 rounds it just didn't feel right for me so I decided to sell it. 3 weeks ago a friend offered to trade me his German 45 USP for the 45 straight up and I took him up on his offer with the intention of selling the USP to get my money back but waited because I was on vacation. Yesterday another friend offered to trade me his W German P226 with 4 mags, holster and a box of self defense ammo for the USP and 2 mags. We agreed on the trade and I still had every intention of selling the P226 until I got to actually look it over and handle it after work today. After handling it I've decided it just feels right in my hands and I can't sell it. Here's the P226: All numbers match and the box is in good condition but missing the test target. I am very happy with the trades I made and have now added my 1st P226 to my Sig collection on accident. I hope my P220's and 320's don't get jealous

Sounds like it is time for some group sessions. Looks like you found yourself a sweet P226.

What I had deemed among the finest ever built 9mm pistol. The design is just correct and addicting. You need ball ammo Remmy. You can create your own test target. Now then, what about its markings ?

The proof is in the shooting, and that ought to be proof enougb. Range report appreciated. "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye". The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupery, pilot and author, lost on mission, July 1944, Med Theatre.

Nice trade! I traded a well-shot 226R for a WG 226 exactly like yours, except mine was missing the test target. It was in immaculate shape otherwise. Excellent score!

Congratulations on a very nice acquisition. I love those West German SIGs from that period, late '80s-early '90s, that came in the small cardboard boxes.

Nice score and funny how things work out. It looks pristine and shot very very little. The magazines don't even have wear on them.

226s are the best pistol on the planet in my opinion. They just melt into my hands like I was born with it. My answer to the "if you can only keep one" threads is 95% of the time 226, with 229 sprinkled in. Enjoy your find, and get it to a range! Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

Thank you for all the compliments and feedback guys. David, here is a pic of the markings. After looking at Uriah's thread, this one was made in 1990. I will be going to the range Sunday morning.

Congradulations, it looks like a really nice pistol. I'll share a funny story. Almost 20 years ago I purchased my first semi auto pistol, it was a West German Sig 226 similar to yours. The funny part was, I had traveled to that particular gun shop because I had gotten a line on an cice BHP. The BHP was gone when I got there. But, they had a nice used H&K USP min 9mm for about the same price. I really wanted the USP, I'd read all the gun rags when it came out, plus all the other hype. Then I wrapped my hand around it and it just didn't feel right. Kind of like the OP reported with his H&K. Then I spotted the SIG in the case and it was like putting on a glove. I still have that pistol and it still shoots great. You may want to do a detailed cleaning and inspection and consider putting in a SIG parts kit with new springs and possibly pins. given the grips on that pistol, you probably have the older straight trigger return spring, the new spring might not fit under the factory grips, so you might not want to replace it.
