I carried a P228 for years as a Fed. I have carried a G19 for years off duty. Just got a P320 XCompact and love it. I was thinking of getting a Romeo Zero, because of its size. Should forego the smaller optic and get the Romeo 1? This would be my first RDS.

I have the 5 Pro on it and it works like a dream. I believe it is factory milled for that red dot.

IDK if the Romeo Zero has the same hole pattern as the Romeo 1 (standard or Pro). Some people criticize the Romeo 1's relative lower robustness compared to the RMR. If you agree with that then the Romeo Zero, which is entirely polymer, would be even less so.

The Zero is decent for its purpose - matching up with the P365XL. But I've been thinking about the Holosun or RMS-C for increased durability.

I have not had any problems with the Romeo 1s, but then again I don't hammer things with my optic either.

Of the two choices I'd go with the Romeo 1. No question of fitment (make sure you know if your slide has the PRO hole pattern or not - if you bought your 320 recently, it's probably PRO) and it's going to be more durable. The tradeoff smaller window and lower durability is not worth the size benefit IMO.

I have a Romeo 1 on a P226 Legion and a Romeo 1 Pro on a P320 M17 and love them both. A friend of mine has the 365 XL with the Romeo Zero and He loves it... However, when you have them side by side in use there is no comparison. The Romeo 1 and Pro both are far better and just look more substantial. Like RobLew, I don’t use mine as a hammer but I don’t necessarily baby them either. The Romeo 1 has provided top line performance for 3 years and the Pro for just over a year.

While I can’t say for sure, I understand the optic lens on the zero is plastic compared to glass on the Romeo 1 variants. Again, I don’t abuse my “stuff” but if you are running more than a few magazines through, you will have to wipe the front of the lens from time to time. I just can’t see plastic being as durable as a glass optic.

Comparing the Romeo 1 to the Pro, other than mounting differences, they are virtually the same but the Pro has a protective shroud that I suppose would protect it against bumps and/or light drops. AT the same time, remember, Sig provides an INFINITE GUARANTEE on all optics.

Again to quote RobLew, A big part of your decision will be made by which one your slide is milled for. A Romeo 1 will mount to a slide milled for the Pro but.. look like shit with unfilled gaps. I had a Romeo 1 on hand that I got on sale. When I mounted it to my P320 M17 I blew a gasket until I learned about the different milling sizes. The P320 M17 was specifically milled to US Army specs and then designed the Romeo 1 Pro to use as an alternative to the Delta Point that was awarded the contract when Sig got the P320 contract. So, once I purchased the one that was made for it - the Romeo 1 Pro... ALL GOOD.

Aaand...since I checked my Romeo Zero today and found a dead battery, I went ahead and ordered a Holosun 507K-X2. The side changing battery tray and metal construction put it over the top for me.

Unlike the RMR that has pretty precise fit to mounting posts, the Romeo Zero is held in place with the mounting screws/optic cut out. Definitely less precise than an RMR, so the fact you have to remove the optic to replace the battery and start over with a zero vs confirming zero like with an RMR makes battery changes for the Zero a bit of a PITA.

The Romeo 1 has a top access compartment, so even though it is indexed with the mouning cut and mounting screws you never have to take it off.

Keep us posted on the Holosun. I'm interested in that unit.

Congrats on picking up a P320 XCompact!

I have a P365, P365XL and P320 Professional. The 365s have a RMSc, which is the same size/ footprint as the romeo0. The P320 comes with the Romeo1 pro. There is a good size difference between the two and they are not interchangeable.

On my RMSc red dots, which have polymer lenses, the powder residue which blows back on them pits the lens over time. Also, extra care needs to be taken when cleaning or you can scratch the lens. I have had a few cases hit the lens on ejection, with the standard P365, which left dings. I don't have enough range time with the Romeo 1 pro to tell if there will be any negative effects from firing.

Good luck on your optic search.

Thank you all for the feedback! Food for thought on the durability of alloy bodied RDS and footprint.

I would just step up to the R1P or wait for the R2

If durability is your concern just go straight to a Trijicon RMR. In order to properly mount it, you will need a BoBro RMR adapter. The adapter also comes with a rear sight, so all you will need a front sight and you will have properly functioning back up irons.
