BHP MKIII Sights question
So when I was visiting mom n dad in WNC last week, dad handed me the BHP he “bought” from me when I was getting divorced in the 90s. So it’s sat in a Bianchi Military holster since then. And when I got it back it was still loaded with the ammo I had given to him then.

Anyway, it has the super duper tall sights. And I want some that are shorter, something like fixed Novaks and a shorter front sight.

Any of you guys who have a BHP, what kind of sights do you have and if you prefer a particular brand who can I get to get the slide milled for them(novaks will require a slide cut)

ALSO, anyone remove the mag disconnect. Do you have to remove remove lever that acts as a firing pin safety?

Regarding removing the magazine disconnect, you may want to read this thread, especially the second page. Because of that thread, I decided to not do this.

FWIW, I used to remove the magazine safeties, but there is a downside. The magazine safety spring also applies pressure to reset the trigger. Removing the mag safety does allow the magazines to drop free, and reduces trigger pull weight a few ounces. But I did not care for a trigger reset that is even softer/soggier than the standard Hi Power displays.

The MKIII guns come with a softer 3-coil trigger spring instead of the stronger 2-coil spring that T-Series and older Hi Powers had. On the MKIII guns, I sometimes used the stronger 2-coil springs on guns with the mag safety removed. I quit removing mag safeties on my Hi Powers many years ago....YMMV

I removed the mag disconnect on my Israeli Police surplus FN, but as Para points out, though it does improve the trigger feel and weight, there’s essentially no perceptible reset now. Still a very shootable gun but if you like a nice positive reset take that into consideration. As for the firing pin block, my MKIII was made without one so I can’t help you with that.

No, you are not disabling the firing pin safety when you remove the magazine disconnect.

Thanks Boss, OTW to read that thread

Turns out I remarked on that thread about an Israeli one I owned years ago. Which I had forgotten about. I sold that back to my buddy before I moved to Texas.

Well I’m gonna remove this one tomorrow and go to the range with 37 year old ammo dad handed me. I’ll report back.

Took the tiny pin out and it wouldn’t come out of the gun, so I then removed the trigger pin and as I was monkeying it around the mag safety popped out. Got it all back together and I can’t tell any differences in the trigger besides the mag drops free and you can fire it w/o a mag being inserted.

Shoots great. And 35yo ammo worked fine.

Still looking for input on sights

I recently had my MkIII overhauled by Hi-Power Medic and had these night sights installed.

From BHSpringSolutions:

From Meprolight:

Except for removing the magazine disconnect shortly after I got it in 1989, the pistol remained stock. After my wishlist was completed it isn't so stock anymore. Smile

Edit to add: I haven't taken measurements, but to my eye the Meprolight night sights look to be dimensionally the same as my stock MkIII sights
