I am unaware that an RMR does this. Mine don't, maybe because they are never in automatic. Can you show me the manual page that describes this. thx.

I know of at least one that does, the Sig Romeo 1.

https://www.sigsauer.com/romeo1-1x30mm.html

FEATURES:

-Available with a universal mount with rear sight dovetail adapters for the most popular handguns on the market
-Available with either an M1913 Picatinny or KeyMod Rail interface for use with today’s MSR platforms
-3 or 6 MOA Red-Dot with multiple intensity settings ensures rapid target engagement under a full range of lighting conditions
-MOTAC™ (Motion Activated Illumination) powers up when it senses motion and powers down when it does not provides for optimum operational safety and enhanced battery life

For sure, no issue on that information that the sig and several others actually do this. but the optic in question for the original discussion was a Trijicon RMR (and that is not a generic term). The RMR does not do this in the way you mean.
And I wouldn't trust a Sig Romeo for anything serious based on my personal experience and those that I have seen in matches.
But YMMV as one would note.
