OK...when it really counts, what do you go out the door with?
Regular carry and plenty of magazines. Vogue, People, US, InStyle, Sunset, Real Simple, Cooking Light...

If I'm going out the door not planning on a fight, I might bring my .44 Magnum with a couple speed loaders in a Bianchi shoulder rig. Its big and intimidating and would probably cause a would-be attacker to think twice about being foolish.
If I knew I was walking into a fight right after breaking through the door, I'd have a few molotov cocktails just to get things started. After that I'd be carrying an AR15 with a full load out plus a 1911 cocked and locked on my hip with about four spare mags. You can bet I'd also have other people with me similarly armed to provide covering fire and teamwork.

My 9mm P320 Fullsize, my .223 POF P415 rifle, plus as many loaded mags as I could comfortably carry. Also a PVS-14 Gen 3 clip-on NV scope, a vest, and an IFAK.

I also prefer some CAS support. Urban, give me a 2 ship of AH-1s or some Little Birds.
Out in the sticks, some F-18s would be nice too.
Any more than that, I'd prefer to just nuke it from orbit.

EDC is my P-228 with two extra magazines. If it's really show time then I'll add my Spikes/RRA carbine with a "few" magazines. Chris

Post Hurricane Ivan. No phones, power, LEO and EMS are tied up with stuff. There is no 911. Even if there was, most roads are blocked. Looters and thugs decide to take advantage of the little old couple down the road.
How's that??
hmm,,
by myself, or have someone with me?
1911 or 220 on the hip (leather, Bianchi pancake style) and either the High Standard Riot 18-7 or the Winchester 1300 defender on a sling over the shoulder,

walk up to said house all non chalant like and help the neighbors, not starting nothing until something is started?

Not always an option. We were without power for 2 weeks. No real emergency services for about a week. Escambia County was cut off from anywhere for about 3 days. Hwy 29 was blocked from the north for about 3 days from normal traffic. Army National Guard came rolling down after a few days. That was a bit scary. I-10 bridge over escambia bay was completely destroyed.
All Pensacola radio stations were off the air. Had to listen to Mobile stations when they got running.
Katrina a year later has overshadowed how bad Ivan was. It was a true SHTF scenario for a few days. Ivan Photos

I'm no Operator, but mid-morning on 9/11/2001 I had to drive an hour into center city Philly to get my girlfriend from work and bring her home. It was still early enough in the day when airplanes were crashing all over the east coast and no one knew what the hell was going on. Public transportation was down everywhere and we were all scared of what was yet to happen.
I rolled with what I had available: a Glock 19 with 3 mags and an AK with 5 mags. If it happened again, I'd bring similar hardware but the rifle would now be an AR.

Out the door? A Beretta 9mm and a Colt 5.56. It is what I am most comfortable with and what I would grab if I had too. They work.
ETA: my bed gun is a Beretta 92A1 with a light and 20 rounds of HST, I have a Colt nearby and also a Mossberg 590A1. The way my house is designed I have a great 'fatal funnel' from the master bedroom to the lower floor entryway. #1 buck works here.
But as many firearms as I own, a Beretta pistol and a Colt rifle will never leave my side.
My last M9 and M4. I had no problems with either.

Lots of Glocks in these posts. Interesting. My everyday load out is as follows:
Gen 4 Glock 19, Ameriglo I-Dot Pro sights, Federal HST 124-grain +P 9mm in a Bravo Concealment OWB kydex holster or AIWB "side-car" custom built by a friend.
Colt 6920 SOCOM AR-15 with Aimpoint PRO, Surefire Mini Scout Light, and WOTG sling. P-mags loaded with Hornady Urban Tap.
Not uncommon for me to run a Glock 43 on the ankle in a Desantis Die Hard ankle holster, which has been flawless. G43 is loaded with the same HST as the G19.
Runner Up: S&W M&P .40 with 165-grain Federal HST. The .40 M&P is the softest-shooting .40 handgun I've ever handled, and I've carried plenty. It's a piece of work.

Without going into the whole story, long story short, I had just such an occasion. Wife was in danger, frantic phone call giving me partial details and begging me to get there fast. I launched with an M4 plus whatever handgun I was carrying daily back then, I think it was a P220. She did call the police and they arrived before I did and she came to no harm. I knew they had been called but didn't know how fast they would respond so I went prepared to deal with it alone if necessary.
