Took 4 handguns to the range for some fun. Came home and cleaned them and last one I cleaned was my Glock 43. After cleaning I thought I'd get an up close look at how the slide and frame slide together. Observed the mating and then went to separate the two components but they will not separate when I hold down the two takedown levers.

Short of going to a gunsmith anyone have a solution as to how to get the slide and frame apart?

Oopps omitted critical fact missing in the above mating, I did not have the barrel and spring assembly in the gun.

With no barrel and recoil spring assembly, the slide is locked onto the frame at the sear/striker lug engagement.

From the back of the slide, try pushing it forward until it's flush with the frame. While holding it there (it'll be under slight tension from the striker spring), pull the trigger to release that engagement and the slide should come off.

If that doesn't work and you can pull the slide to the rear, you will see the firing pin spacer sleeve. You can push that in with a punch, pen, key, etc. While holding it in, slide the rear cover plate off with your thumb and then pull the striker assembly out.



That should allow the slide to come off as well.

This. You have to pull the striker assembly out - it’s not hard to do. Just watch a quick YouTube video.

Remove the rear striker plate. Slide the striker assembly out. Slide will disengage

Remember in removing the plate not to put your eye out.

I learned the hard way not to play gunsmith with a HK P7..
