They could be converted. I had Smith convert several of mine to decock only.

I believe it was a 4566TSW, 4003TSW and a 4013TSW that Smith converted for me.

Smith continued to develop the 3rd Gen pistols throughout their run and by the time the TSW guns came around, they were excellent guns.

I do not recall Smith being willing to supply the parts required to do the conversion.

I contacted S&W a few years back about converting my 3913 to decock only. They no longer provided that service for the Gen 3 pistols.

S&W stopped supporting and servicing the 3rd Gen guns circa 2014ish. (At least on the civilian side; they continued to provide support for some larger law enforcement agencies like the California Highway Patrol and West Virginia State Police that retained their 3rd Gens for a few more years.)

Yep. IIRC, that quirk was unique to the 3913.

The original (pre-TSW) 3913s had 8 round magazines. Early no-rail 3913TSWs had a shorter grip and used 7 round CS9 magazines. The more common later railed 3913TSW went back to the standard 8 round 3913 magazine.

I picked up a brand new 5953TSW for half price when Smith & Wesson discontinued the 3rd gen guns. Gander Mountain was liquidating all the 3rd gens and it was the only one left in the store. I wish I had gotten there sooner, I would have bought every one they had.

I bought one of the Tactical 40’s that the CHP carried. It is a monstrous beast. That is a compliment.

Another 3rd Gen S&W question…

Can a DAO, 3913 be converted to DA/SA? If so, any idea of the parts needed?

Thanks again guys

I know the TSW versions were designed to allow for such conversions.

I do not think the earlier guns were but I am not sure about it.

The 3913 was designed for DA/SA, although S&W sold some DAO so it should be convertable to DA/SA.

The 3953 is the same gun but DAO. I believe they can also be converted. I'm not sure what parts are needed - you can ask over at the S&W forum.

FYI - the parts may be different for TSW guns vs non-TSW guns.

Some were convertible.

First of all, the 3913 is DA/SA from the factory... The factory DAO version of that model family is the 3953.

The earlier pre-TSW 3913s (DA/SA) could be converted to DAO, but the early 3953s (DAO) could not be converted to DA/SA.

However, the later TSW versions of the 3913 and 3953 could each be swapped between DA/SA and DAO, since the models were updated to allow the fire control parts to be interchangeable.

But conversion parts are likely very hard to find these days, as parts and factory support have been discontinued for about a decade now.

If you have a DAO 3953 and want it to be DA/SA like a 3913, you'd likely be better off just selling/trading your 3953 and picking up a 3913.
