Stealth Arms Platypus?
The Stealth Arms Platypus looks interesting. A 1911 style double stack 1911 that uses Glock 17 style mags. They custom build each gun they say. Anyone have one or shot one?

Haven't heard of this one.

Seems interesting up until the part where it is a(nother) 9mm.

Hope it works out for them.

But does it take………oh it does you say……huh no shit. Smile

I read about this a while back. Can’t say I like the name but the concept and the “you can have it your way” customization is compelling assuming it isn’t vaporware for all real purposes. (I know there are some guns out there I mean at scale).

Up until yesterday I had never heard of them when I happened across a YouTube video of a guy touting the Platypus. It looks like it might be worth considering. Appears to be well made, price range on a par with the Prodigy and goes up depending on the custom add-ons you have them do. Time will tell if it catches on and I'm also interested if anyone has had any first hand experience with it.

I like it. Similar concept to the Oracle 2311, which takes P320 mags. Hopefully this signals a further shift away from the pricey and finnicky 2011 magazines.

I know folks always complain about 2011 mags, and I have NO practical knowledge on the subject, but doesn’t introducing a mag designed for a radically different platform introduce its own host of issues when trying to play well with a “1911’esqe” architecture?

Potentially. But that comes down to Stealth Arms having worked out the kinks in their design before release.

Reliability is paramount, whether it's intended to be a defensive or a competition handgun.

Haven't had any issues with the 2011 magazines.

They work fine in a P227 after a few modifications.

I think it's a great idea, especially since these pistols can use Glock's well-proven, reliable 33 round magazines.

It's growing on me. The name fits. A 1911 style gun that uses Glock mags seems to make about as much sense as a duck crossed w/ a beaver, hence the platypus.

The cliché choice would have been to name it after a snake or arachnid. We had a thread making fun of that recently.

Well, I'm interested. Platypus is unassuming and goes hard in the other direction from the pistol names in the other thread. Taking Glock mags over 320 mags is a smart move.

I'm interested since I have a plethora of Glock 17 mags. I hate to be that guy but I'm hoping they do a less than 4" slide version that takes Glock 19 mags. lol. I want a 1911 style for carry that's small but has more than 10 capacity. I have a C2 Duo but it's too big. I'm looking at the Bul Armory 3.25" or the Alpha Foxtrot that takes the Shield Arms S15 mags.

I dig it. Smart idea using the Glock mags.

Now do it to take G20 mags. Wink

I can't remember if they were going to start offering other calibers or if that was EAA.
I'm in week 3 of my order. Frame and Slide are made. It was about an 8 week lead time when I ordered. It's higher now so I'm guessing they're getting more orders.

I gave my son 6 17-rd mags, two 33-rd mags and one 24-rd mag that I wasn't using. He already stuck +2 Glock baseplates on the six regular mags to use with the magwell. He's eagerly waiting. It should get here when the school year is over. He's been straight A all year which is great because he was having issues the last two years because of at home school / covid crap.

But somewhat appropriate. Look at the animal itself and it seems like a hodgepodge of several different animals. A 2011 using Glock mags? Very hodgepodge. And quite brilliant, the way I see it.

The biggest knock when it comes to the Staccato is the lack of affordable magazines, particularly for us caught behind the mag cap limit bullshit. The Stealth Arms, Alpha Foxtrot (Glock 43X) and Oracle Arms (SIG P320 mags) designs take care of that issue most effectively.

My shooting buddy just received his Platypus. Haven’t taken it to the range, yet.
Interesting mix of things going on with these guns. Price is right there with the SA Prodigy, which I just acquired.
I will update this thread with my impressions when we shoot the thing, next weekend.
