One of my sons got me a Radian Ramjet Afterburner setup as a gift a few months ago for my G43x, and it's been suprisingly effective.

But one of the by products of shooting it alot is heavy carbon and lead fouling inside the ports and baffle areas.

After the first few steel matches I shot it in I probably had about 500rds thru it, and the ports were showing build up in the corners and sides.

My regular cleaning methods didn't even make a dent in the crust of carbon and lead inside. And, I spent some time in soaking it in different solvents along with trying to chip out the deposits with a dental pick and small screwdriver tips.

The process sucked...

So I called a buddy that shoots open guns alot and he said he uses Battle Born Grease to leave a thin film on the inside of the port areas and it helps.

So after I cleaned the comp the first time I took a Qtip and gave the inside of the ports a good coating.

After shooting 300rds this past weekend the cleanup was substantially eaisier. I soaked the comp in CLP for 20 mins while I cleaned the other guns then scraped out the deposits with a sharp small screwdriver tip. The grease suggestion worked!

Hope this helps others.

Even easier is Breakthrough suppressor cleaner. I had a few rifle muzzle devices that I thought were going to be forever carbon coated and it brought them back to looking new after a soak.

Thanks, I’ll definitely look into that!

What about brake-cleaning spray or an ultrasonic cleaner?

Speaking for myself, neither of these did much of anything to the carbon buildup on my muzzle brakes. Now, that’s rifles and suppressor mounts, but carbon buildup is still carbon buildup. Breakthrough suppressor cleaner in a jar in a heated ultrasonic? It dissolved all that crap off when other stuff wouldn’t. Works just as well leaving it in there for 24-48 hours.
