So in looking at pictures of the Capital unpleasantness I see a couple plain clothes Federal dudes?? Running Glocks with what looks like a red and white striped (candy cane esque pattern) in the front of their slides.

What is that all about??

Care to post a photo?

Could be a variation on the practice of specially marking the guns of plainclothes officers with bright readily identifiable tape or other markings, to help prevent friendly fire.

(Unknown guy in plainclothes with gun vs. known friendly guy in plainclothes with specific bright yellow reflective tape on gun, for example.)

Whatever it is, only one of them has it on their gun; the guy right next to him does not. No idea what it might be.

This should show a pretty good picture of what I am talking about.

Your right, it could be the plainclothes markers.

Yeah, those look like they're probably high-vis identifying markings for plainclothes officers.

Not sure why only some of them have it.

Maybe older guns, and they've discontinued that policy so haven't bothered to put them on newer ones? Or vice-versa, having just implemented it and haven't gotten around to installing them on the other guns?

Israeli police used to do something similar. My surplus High Power had yellow reflective tape glued to it.

Identification between agencies. That could explain why some have it and some don't. In this case there can be Capitol Police, Secret Service and other DOJ agencies.

Well, there you go. They use it to reduce accidental damage to their Glocks.
