Dumb question of the day ... "SAS"
So, I've been on gun forums for a while... but this one is starting to bother & mystify me.....

What does 'SAS' mean?

I'm sure it is obvious... but I've googled about 5 gun term web sites and can't find it and so just have to declare my ignorance....

I always thought it was a British Special Air Services release at first. It took me a while also. Big Grin

Thanks, I would have never figure that out....

I thought for sure it had something to do with actually function... trigger design or such...

The true SAS SIGs were the original guns with DAK, as the hammer will not snag on anything. The SAS Gen2 guns are DA/SA, so their hammer is more likely than the DAK hammer to snag on something.

It's not such a stupid question. When Sig SAS first came out, a lot of guys in gunshops were saying "Special Air Service" (as in British Special Forces) or some such version.

I have no idea of the history with Sig and these 'SAS' pistols but it sure seems to me like the P230 had to be one of the first:

And it is a DA/SA pistol

I’m sure that the catchy name that conjured up visions of an elite military unit had nothing to do with its selection. Roll Eyes

I think all Sig pistols that are SAS models also have the SRT, short reset trigger

And in addition to the P220 SAS, the first P239 SAS models had DAK triggers (see the photos just a short ways up the page).

Speaking of the Sig DAK Gen One. I got a little carried away when they first came out. I bought two model 239's (one 9mm and one 40 S&W), a 229 in 40 S&W and a 220 in 45ACP.
All but the 229 40 S&W have been shot very little if at all.
My question is about the 220. It is the only one I have seen and am wondering if it was made in limited amounts and would therefore be worth a premium.
Thanks for any assistance.

So, speaking of the p239: I have three.. what I assume is a standard DA/SA 9mm and two DAKs in 357.... I can't see any difference between their frames.... and the only difference in the slide is the 357s are slightly higher and thicker. But they all have the same smooth lines.
