That has got to be the dumbest police department on earth when it comes to gun selection for its officers.

Fox Baltimore link

They list 2 conditions:
1) OOB trigger pulled and held back, the pistol will fire when it returns to battery. Umm...why wouldn't it? Maybe my brain isn't thinking right. I don't see this as a problem, it's what I would expect to happen.

2) The drop safety breaks and the pistol is no longer drop safe. Although it does appear easier to fire than a direct -30 degree or whatever the P320 was, it would need a broken part to happen. Initially it was reported roll pins came out and the triggers fell apart. Which would be the drop safety being disabled. The video shows triggers intact. So did they remove the spring from inside the trigger to demonstrate? Or have they found the drop safety to fail in the field? What did they do to be able to demonstrate repeated failure?

Condition 2 is worrisome if a) the drop safety is prone to failure and b) the pistol without the drop safety working will fire that easily. Condition 1? Someone please chime in to explain to me why that is indictative of a problem.

The FNS-40 pistols will be sold to Glock,
according to Vinson. It’s not yet clear how much money the county will recoup from the sale.

The bold part has to be a joke. What the EFF do you think Glock is going to do with those FN pistols that they purchase? Unload them at a distributor for $200 a piece, at which point they will be sold on the open market as used police trade in guns for $299?????

Morons.

At one point Maryland passed a law (which may have been repealed by now) that L.E. agencies had to either destroy thier old pistols or sell them to thier officers. They could not trade them for new pistols.

They may have repealed that law during the last recession. But some of the more “progressive” municipalities may feel that it is OK to throw away thier residents money “for the children”.

As I said previously, this department should not be issued anything more than 4” S&W Model 64’s with double-action only triggers.

I watched a video on this very subject. I don't carry my FN 509, but I gladly would ... if given the chance.

In the video I watched, the gun would discharge if tapped with a hammer. I tried to duplicate the discharge numerous times (on 2 different FN guns) but with no luck.

Does anyone know offhand if there have been any design changes related to drop safety with the new 509 Midsize they touted at SHOT?

I don't understand why anyone buying pistols for a police department would buy something other than a Glock

If everyone automatically bought Glocks, the company would no longer have the incentive to price them so low... so they wouldn't.

zoom6zoom, that's as ridiculous as suggesting that Axon would jack up the prices of Tasers if they were the only company making a viable electronic control device.

Oh....wait.
