The S&W 68 was basically a 66 chambered in 38 only. There were about 6055 made.

The model 68 was originally made for California Highway Patrol. L.A.P.D. allowed officers to purchase and carry model 68s after they had been fixed to fire double action only.
Most sold to California Highway Patrol.
The gun I showed above had been fixed and carried.'
