I can’t decide if I should put an optic on my new Glock 19 gen 6. Login/Join

I originally planned to keep it naked. No light or optic. I have my duty G45 and G19.5 both with optics and lights. But now I feel compelled to put an optic on my new favorite Glock. Any thoughts or suggestions are more than welcomed and appreciated.

Haahaa. I know but I also know how much easier it makes shooting. Being that I use them on my other pistols. But, it’s not like I can’t shoot with just my nights sights. I’m on the verge of hitting buy now and trying to talk myself out of it.

Just do it. I can shoot just fine without an optic, but when I don't have one I miss it. It just makes everything easier.

That’s what I wanted to say! I shoot fine without an optic, too. But, so much easier, like you said!

My eyes at the point where an optic makes sense. Now that I am using them, I am glad I did.

We just got new optic-equipped duty guns for our reserves at work, and I put them through the transition course the other day. At the end of it we shot quals, and after we were done with the new guns we also qualified them on their existing backup/off-duty guns, which are non-optic equipped P365s. Before they shot, one of them made the comment that they were going to shoot the iron-sighted guns like crap after spending all day working with optics. I told them, no, you'll shoot them at least as well, if not better than you ever have...but you're going to miss the optic. They all scored just fine, but when they were done they were asking when we're trading in the P365s for optic versions, lol.

It doesn't shoot the gun for you, but even for young eyes it makes it easier to establish a sight picture, easier to confirm that you're on target, and often will show you what you did wrong when you miss (if you're paying attention). There are still a couple of scenarios where I'd prefer not to have an optic on a gun, but on an EDC 9mm like a G19 I see no reason not to have one.

I’m just a mediocre idjit at best shooting but this is what I see as the biggest benefit of dots on pistols. Even or especially with dryfire they will show you what your grip is doing and that is super valuable IMO.

I love my G45 gen6 so much that I splurged on a Trijicon RMR HD. Absolutely amazing combo.

I remember the first time I used one. One of our detectives who is also an instructor had a G17 with a trim on on the range. Everyone was giving him shit. Calling him a cheater. Several of us tried it out. I immediately was in impressed and really liked it. I knew the game was changing.

I ordered a Holosun 407c green. I have a 508t, 507c and 510. All green. But only use dot except for the 510. It’ll be here tomorrow.

I just bought a Gen 6 G19 today and put an RMR on it with the factory Trijicon long screws with dry loctite. Those suckers go in deep and the dry loctite really grabs. Torqued to 15 in-lb and should be good to go.

Now the question is what sights? Optic is above the stock sights but not high enough to need suppressor sights, so I need something in the middle.

I am screwed! I'll probably get a G6 G17 relatively soon.

For a light I put on a Surefire XC2 that I had laying around. It's basically a TLR-7 copy.

I expect Holosun to make an SCS that fits the cutout perfectly and probably works with standard sights so might be good to wait. But the G19/RMR combo is the standard so maybe I'll stick with it.

For sights I’m thinking GL-429. Does anyone use VC3 for threads? That’s what I’m planning on using.

Yeah at the age now where my eyes suck! ALL my guns have red dots on them now. That shits expensive!

For ME:
DA/SA=Sig 9mm or HK P30 LEM 9
Striker fired= Glock 9mm
If it's a .45= 1911
Suppressed= HK in .45
I like anything in 10mm

Yes. Have 2 gen 5 G19s with RMRs. Used VC3 on all 4 screws. No issues.

I despise VC3. Smells weird and it's too gooey. It's good for things you want to be able to adjust but need to firm up the fit so they don't drift. But that's about it.

I have an assortment of Loctites for various purposes. Anaerobic Loctites or pre-applied dry Locite is the industry standard for what I do for a living.

I'm thinking the same XL height but with an orange front dot with the blacked out rear. I want lower 1/3 co-witness with the full front dot viewable and not cut in half. Not sure if these are tall enough or if I need the 2XL. Ameriglo website assumes an MOS plate so they don't specify the right height for a Gen 6.

And the QR code that came with the G19 to link to the manual on the Glock site doesn't work. They are still a couple days from official introduction. And we have them already. HK takes almost a damn year after introduction to actually have stuff in stores.

I'm using the GL-429 on most everything because that gives me the lowest possible thing in my tumor view. But I'm thinking of getting some hackathorns and taking the optic and taller sights off my gen6 19.

It doesn't really do anything for me. My issued glock is the 45gen5MOS-5 with RMR06. My off duty Glock is a gen5 26 upper with GlockStore M1X frame (think Glock 26X).

The gen6 19 to me isn't big enough to need an optic for what I want. I have a P365XL with optic that I never carry either. I think I'll carry the gen6 19 more if I just keep it plain, no optic, no light.

Not minority enough!

Best to buy another one so you can have one with, one without.

And you should probably buy a third in case one of those breaks.

Maybe two, just be to be sure.
