I apologize if this had been posted before, I tried to look, but didn’t see one specifically on this topic. Specifically looking at the 10mm Legion P220, most of what I see are SAO, with a few DA/SA models but have only found them on GB. None of the local LGS have any in stock where I could handle and decide. Have never had a SAO only in the P220 series, only the DA/SA models so wasn’t sure which I’d prefer. I wish I could look at one, before deciding, but if anybody can help me with their experience, it would be helpful. I am leaning to the SAO, have had 1911’s for years, so having a safety is not a big deal. It would not be an edc, but just for plinking. Thank you all in advance!
I have no experience with the P220 but I do have both a Sig P226 Legion in both DA/SA and SAO... I'm a DA/SA de-cock only guy and so really don't shoot the SAO one much.... and have no plans to carry it or any other SAO pistol... but for what you are asking, plinking... I would for sure go with the SAO one... the single action trigger on mine is in my limited opinion the best trigger I've ever had... for precision shooting I don't think you will regret it.
And Oh, of course this has been discussed in one way or another before... but that is the nature of these things....
during the two day course I just took... I decided to cheat a bit on the one ragged hole competition... I was the only one in the group shooting a DA/SA pistol. everyone else was striker fired.... once on the 5 yard line we made our pistols ready and I did not decock and put the pistol back in the holster so that after drawing all my 5 shots were single action.... I still lost... we had one of those young bucks who was faster and more accurate than any of us old geezer.
I second Blume9mm's opinion. I prefer DA/SA for carry because it doesn't require a manual safety and adds re-strike capability. But for range use, nothing beats SAO. On any classic P-series SIG, the SA pull of the SAO model is better than the SA pull of the DA/SA model (assuming all else is equal).
The only thing that I would add is that the SA pull of a gun designed as SAO from the beginning (i.e. 1911 or P210) is still inherently a bit sharper than a modified DA/SA gun. But all of the SAO P22x SIGs I have tried had consistently excellent triggers.
I started out with DA/SA P226 and P220. Then I got a Legion P226 SAO.
I say for either carry or range, the SAO beats the DA/SA even with the DA/SA trigger "smoothed" which I had for my P226. You're going to prefer the SAo especially since you're used to 1911s.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I picked up a P220 Legion 10mm in DA/SA and took it to the range last weekend. Wow, what a blast to shoot. Handled a variety of ammo flawlessly excepy one round of the Underwood ammo with the little grooves carved into them, but I'll try that again sometime.
I'm also curious about trying one of the classic series in SAO, but haven't yet.
Of course, that's not particularly helpful. But I'm bragging that I got a P220 10mm.
Well, just picked up our P220 SAO 10mm. Hoping to get a chance to try it out this weekend. Feels very nice without actually trying it yet. Will post a range report once we get time to check it out.
Agree with the comments above. The best factory SA trigger on any of my SIGs isn't my X5 or Legion SAO, it's my DA/SA SIG P229 Sport. However it got put together, best trigger other than high-end 1911s.

Your lucky. I would say ever gun class I've taken that's had a DA/SA gun in it, the instructor was closely watching those guys to make sure they decocked.
If I was going to criticize the instructors in this class if would have been for that... when we were going through our firing drills they never called out to de-cock. Then again, I was the only one on the line with a pistol that needed to be de-cocked.
