I am looking for a new carry gun, DA/SA, any caliber, must have a manual safety (kids now), be big enough to be IWB/ mexican carry and weight is not an issue BUT slim or thin is much needed. I am blessed with a tall lean body so i can hide a FS 1911 if needed but i want a DASA and the CZ -feels- good in my hands. I think it needs a bigger/more tactile thumb safety , but other than that , i like it. anyone have any input. I also have a Kahr CM9 which is the bees knees for pocket carry but with the kids are with me , i want more firepower and a more full size gun on me. open to suggestions. the SW shield 2.0 looked good also , but i have avoided SW for 20 years and just dont have a lot of confidence in there stuff, it looks and feels cheap

thanks, shawn

I love CZ's and I have a Shadow 2 fullsize. Something to consider for carry is the lack of any firing pin safety. I used to somewhat scoff at whether that was a big deal until the dude shot the RSO at a match by dropping his gun. Maybe there are more details that caused this ND so I could be wrong.

Honestly I will probably end up with a S2 Compact, cool gun. I have read of magazine baseplate non commonality which kind of sucks. Buying a 10-20 dollar baseplate kind of lessens the allure of "same magazines".

For carry you can't go wrong with the PCR or the P01. I like decockers. I don't carry CZ's cocked and locked and while I have thumbed down the hammer a million times, I prefer the decocker when I'm not at the range.

If you do get it though, lots of pictures and a range report of course would be appreciated.

I have a Shadow 2. It’s heavy. I don’t know about the compact, but my Shadow2 has a steel frame. There is no way I would consider it a carry gun.

I have multiples of the CZ75 Compact (PCR and P01). These two guns are outstanding. For carry just decide if you want/need a rail. That is the only difference between these two, don't buy into that NSN nonsense. P01 has rail, PCR does not.

Personally I have over time put CGW trigger jobs into all of my CZ's other than the S2 which didn't need one.

I think the S2 Compact in its current form is a range gun. I don't want to not have a FP safety (I know lots of 1911's don't either lol) and I don't want to administratively need to thumb down a hammer for carry. Sometimes I get tired and less is more. Others will disagree and that is fine. For me the PCR is the one to get. I don't use a wml on most of my carry guns, I just carry a flashlight. You can't go wrong with the P01 either though.

S2 Compact is an aluminum frame.

It is a great looking gun though and I do love me an optics cut, although I hate the combo plate and rear sight nonsense. I want both, a plate and a rear sight that stays. And a FP safety. And a decocker. To my mind they made some odd choices.

I have a CZ P-07 and it is awesome for carry. Ergos are excellent and it is very accurate. A few Cajun parts installed make it even better. I also put good night sights on mine.

I think you can swap the decocker for a manual safety. I highly recommend the P-07 for carry.

PCR and P-07 owner. Both excellent and somewhat underrated pistols. Cajun Gun Works and MCarbo can make them even better. My only complaint with them is that the slim slide can be had to grasp when racking.

Yes the P07 is the closest da/sa analogy to a G19 you can buy probably. It uses the Omega system which allows the user to easily swap between safety or decocker versions. It is my only Omega gun but in my experience of one, the Omega trigger is slightly worse out of the box. I also swapped in CGW stuff into my P07 and it is a great package. I wish it took cz75 mags alas it takes its own mag but they aren't pricy.

I just pulled it out to double check. The CZ75 (compact) mags will fit into the P07 and lock the slide back. The P07 mags won't even fit into a P01. They definitely are two different mags but there might be a bit of cross compatibility. Maybe. I have never tried in live fire.

I don't think I would carry a CZ hammer gun without a FPB, which is what you get with the shadow pistols. If you want a p01 sized steel frame compact with FPB and safety, I would track down model 99021 or 99041. Those are somewhat uncommon, but you do see them for sale every now and again.

I had multiples of each at one point, but wouldn't consider carrying them because they were the size of a p01 and somehow weighed MORE than an SP01 tactical. They sat in the safe until I either sold them off or did some horse trading.

The Aluminum framed P01 or PCRs carry much better on the hip than the steel framed compact CZ pistols. I like the P01 the best out of any of the CZ hammer guns.

Steel frame P-01s are wider than the other 75 compacts. They're the same width as a Shadow 2.

P-07 is a good choice. It uses the Omega trigger system which can be set up as a manual safety or decocker lever; however, the lever might be smaller &/or less tactile than you like.

Sar B6C is a CZ 75 clone you should check out. They're inexpensive too.

A CZ 75B compact checks all the boxes, except for "bigger/more tactile thumb safety."

You might consider the HK P30SK w/ manual safety, although it's thicker than the other suggestions.

If you can find one, can afford it, and like the compact slide on full size grip set-up, then the Phoenix Fusion TA Carry has everything you described you want.

My son has a PCR, and IMO it's a fabulous carry gun. The alloy frame makes it light to carry, and the grip contour is an excellent fit for both of our hands. I had a steel framed 75D compact at one point, and the difference is night and day. I never carried that steel frame gun, but I'd happily carry a PCR all day. I worked his trigger over some and it's very smooth with a nice rolling break, especially in the SA. The internals are kinda complicated, but workable. There is solid aftermarket support for them through Cajun Gun works if you wanted to go that route instead of trying to do it yourself.

The PCR has a firing pin block, a decocker, and no manual safety to get in the way. I know you said you wanted a manual safety, but IMO the CZ manual safety models are not ideal because unless you're going to carry cocked and locked, you have to manually lower the hammer by pulling the trigger. I'd contend that is far more dangerous than just carrying a decocked DA/SA gun with no manual safety. The only issue I could see is that the trigger reach might be a problem for somebody with short fingers, but that's not an issue that we have.

I would shy away from the Shadow Compact and look at the PCR or P-07 for carry, if only to have the firing pin block.

Another satisfied PCR owner. I have the Cajun Gun Works Pro kit installed and the trigger is fantastic. I should be receiving a carry holster later this week from R. Grizzle and it will definitely be part of my carry rotation. What surprised me the most about the CZ PCR is how well it points and shoots for me.

I have a Shadow 2 Compact for CCW. Very happy with it. Paired it with a Garrett kydex leather-lined holster. Very comfortable. Unlike my former CCW P365XL, no concerns about condition with the SA/DA.

Have a Shadow 2 FS, it would be heavy IMO for daily carry, I'd need a good belt and suspenders

Agree that if going CZ the P-07 would be a great choice if you want DA/SA with some Cajun seasoning. If decided striker then the P-10C

I have the P-09 and it's a good shooter

I would look at a P-01 or PCR or even a 75 compact. I have a P-01 for a carry CZ. All are roughly Glock 19 size but with the hammer and beavertail.

P-01 and PCR will be decocker models, the 75 Compact will be a traditional DA/SA gun but you have to lower the hammer manually for DA start. It can also be carried cocked and lock and has a firing pin block safety.

Personally, I would not carry a non firing pin block safety CZ. However, you can apply the manual safety on the Shadow with the hammer at the lower hammer notch position. If you keep the firing pin and spring as stock, you should be ok. Just not for me.

Ironically, I occasionally carry a non firing pin block 1911.

I'm a big fan of CZ pistols and own several. I have shot the Shadow 2 Compact and while I'm not a huge fan of compacts in general, it shoots very well.

I wish it were steel, but obviously its aluminum for carry.

Very nice Phoenix you have there. Their lineup are some of my favorites handguns.

Phenomenal quality and awesome shooters. Cool

My CZ Shadow 2 Orange quickly rose to the top one or two most accurate pistols I own.
A mechanical masterpiece, IMO.
Sure, heavy but I like heavy pistols.

Have not handled or shot the compact yet but I am sure it should shoot well.
Will it be a good carry weapon?
Not sure I would go that direction as carry gun though, may that could change.
I will say CZ's are nice! Cool
