Are the mags for the P228 compatible with a P229?

P228 magazines and mags for the original 9mm P229 were the same.
Now that the magazine well of the current 9mm P229 has been enlarged to the same size as the 357/40 P229, P228 mags will normally lock and even function in the new guns, but they will be a loose fit.

Thanks sigfreund. I have a couple 228 mags that don't lock in.

Which version of the P229 do you have?
