I'm trying to evaluate a P245 for a friend. It appears nearly new, with no smileys at all. The trigger won't go forward with the magazine out, but appears to work fine with the magazine in. I haven't been able to shoot it due to temporary lack of range access.

Any advice is welcome.

I would check the trigger bar spring under the right grip. Here’s a reference https://www.topgunsupply.com/s...-p245-new-style.html

I can’t imagine what sort of situation would cause the problem described, but I agree that checking the trigger bar and spring would be the place to start (after confirming that the problem exists as claimed). Two things to check are that the rear end of the spring is in the notch at the bottom rear of the trigger bar and not in the stress relief hole, and the front of the spring isn’t inserted too far through the frame.

TBS inserted too far (excuse the dirt):

Correct:

Did it work prior and this just start happening?
Are you certain it isn't one of those rare SIG's with a magazine disconnect?

It appears the grip screw was so tight that, over the years, it caused the grip to bend slightly inward, affecting the trigger bar and spring. Parts have been ordered. We shall see.

that is a somewhat common problem but more so with aftermarket grip panels...do you still have the bushings/washers under the screws?...good luck

I compared the right side guts under the grip with another 245. Not only is the trigger bar spring slightly bent, it appears someone re-installed it at some point putting one end in the wrong hole. (there are two, I am unsure why.) Grip screws exist, but the washers on that side are missing. I re-installed a new spring in the proper way, and the functionality problem seems to have been corrected. A friend had appropriate washers and screws (the heads were bogeyed up) and all is well. I did recommend replacing the grip if he could find some. He was not the original owner and didn't mess it up in the first place.
