I had a P322 on the range, this afternoon. These pistols ( I own two) have never disappointed me. Unfortunately, today's trip involved Remington Golden, 36gr. hollowpoints. I hadn't bothered to bring along any other brand. The session was a complete headache-- fails to feed, stovepipes, numerous jammed and twisted bullets on the loading ramp. I've used Golden Bullets in other rimfires in the past, without a problem. I shut things down at the 150 mark, tired of clearing the weapon every few rounds. Anyone had similar bad luck with Remingtons in the P322? What's your favorite for casual practice/plinking in the usually reliable P322?

Never used them and maybe it is just the CCI but I also clean and lube my mags after every use. After cleaning I spray them with CRC silicone and blow dry ..Please humor me and try that and use the same ammo next time.. Really want to know if it is the ammo or the lubed mags that makes my P322 run without issue.
This is suppressed and unsuppressed.. with CCI hollow point mini mags and standard.. blazers, and white box loose bullet Winchester..

I don't own a P322 so I can't offer direct advice with regards to that gun. But Remington .22LR ammo has something of a past reputation of inconsistent reliability. Whether it's truly deserved...that may be debatable since it's been my experience that ALL .22LR ammo regardless of brand brings some level of unreliability to the game. I've had issues with CCI Mini-Mags with some of my firearms, the purported vaunted pillar of 'reliable' rimfire ammunition (yeah, right). Yet a couple of those same guns that didn't like Mini-Mags ran other "notably less reliable" ammo brands without hiccup whatsofrickingever. Who truly knows what madness determines what's good and what's not in the .22 ammo-verse. I sure don't.

I do keep my mags clean and lubed. I had eight magazines with me, yesterday. All exhibited the same. If I have time, I'll take the P322 and some Federal Auto Match and CCI Mini Mag back out with me, this afternoon. They have worked fine in the past. If they function normally, I'll reintroduce the Golden Bullets to see what happens. All of the Remingtons discharged with 100% reliability, yesterday. The issues were entirely with feeding and ejection. Unfortunately, I just bought several thousand of these Goldens at a discount. They may be restricted to revolvers and my bolt/lever rifles.

.22 brass are a lot more fragile than you think. Having it all mixed up in a bucket doesn’t help. Especially if it gets banged around. When I was coaching the pistol team, we would get failure consistently on the third or fourth round. Turns out that the kids loading a full mag into the pistol with a round chambered…after shooting the first string causes dents in the case on the top rounds.

Also, we never had any real luck with the Remington bulk .22 in term of consistency.

I returned to the range with full magazines of Federal, CCI and Remington ammo. As anticipated. the Auto Match and Mini Mags behaved perfectly. Both feature 40gr solid bullets. When I introduced the 36gr hp Golden Bullets, the stovepipe and jamming resumed. Easily 30% of the bullets were trapped by the slide, many bullets twisted so violently that they could not be hand fed into the chamber. Three untouched rounds were actually ejected out of the magazine and onto the ground, failing to engage the loading ramp whatsoever. Obviously, the timing or some part of the loading process is disrupted by these Remington rounds in my P322. Buy or proceed at your own risk.

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

My p322 doesn't like hollow points at all.
Plain round nose works ok.

Integrity is doing the right thing, even when nobody is looking.

I know I have some CCI Mini Mag and Stinger hollowpoints on hand. I think I'll give them a try, although I'm pretty sure I ran batches through when I bought the pistol, better than a year ago. I don't recall any issues.

Remington Golden is some of the worst .22 ammo out there. It's filthy and inconsistent. I had the misfortune of finding one of those 1600rd buckets during the most recent panic, and bought it because I couldn't find anything else.

My MkII ran it, but it runs everything. And even then it gummed up far more quickly, and filled up with all manner of copper shavings. None of my other semi-autos would run it reliably. It was also the least accurate load out of many that I tested in my bolt-actions. I was really happy when that big bucket o' fail was gone. Fed Automatch has become my go-to for cheap rimfire plinking fodder.

I have not shot the Goldens but I have a similar issue with Aguila in my P322. Federal, CCI, Wildcats, and Fiochi have all been fine. .22s are simple a dirty round but some are worse than others. I probably have 4k rounds through mine since Dec. I have misfires in one day of Aguila than I have had in all my guns combined since the 90’s.I still love to shoot it though.

Remington is not worth buying. I only shoot it when I get it for free, so the fact it acted up is not surprising.

One thing I find funny about American shooters in general, especially with 22’s they will try to run the cheapest, lowest quality bulk ammo then be surprised when the ammo causes malfunctions ( just a general statement not directed at the OP)
When I want my gun to run, I feed it quality ammo
For me the two best options are CCI and Mexican aguila. I Will reluctantly use federal if I get a bargain or it is all I can find ( only marginally better quality than Remington ) and Winchester has now matched Remington as the worst quality 22 ammo on the market.

For best accuracy and function when it counts I resort to European match grade ammo.

Trying to shoot for the least amount possible is understandable. Most of us are not competing so we don’t care about the quality of the round as much. I can buy the least expensive round in any caliber outside of the .22lr and never have a problem. .22 is simply a dirty and cheap round. I buy the boxes of 500 or more. My hands are dirty after a day of shooting them. The Aguilar is the worst in my experience. I have had great success with Federal and Fiochi. CCI is good too but not worth the difference in price.
