Or do they just wait for K-T do design/produce/sell

and then with no honor or shame just rip them off?

SPRINGFIELD, MA., (7/11/2023) – Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ Global Select: SWBI), a leader in firearm manufacturing and design, today announces the release of the new M&P22 MAGNUM pistol, chambered in 22 WMR.

This latest addition to the M&P series is all about bringing more. More capacity, more reliability, and more features. Its internal hammer-fired design, paired with the TEMPO gas-operated barrel system, keeps components locked in place until the bullet passes the gas port, increasing performance. With a staggering 30-round capacity, the full-size polymer frame M&P22 MAGNUM ships with two magazines so you can spend less time reloading and more time training. It comes with a fiber optic front sight, black notched rear sight, and is optics-ready, allowing you to direct-mount most of the popular micro red dots available today.

“The M&P22 MAGNUM combines the best features of our internal hammer fire control system with the patented TEMPO barrel design, creating a smooth operating experience for the shooter. The 22 WMR is a versatile and field-savvy cartridge that has been a legacy among American shooters, hunters, and trappers for decades. Smith & Wesson is proud to offer a new pistol that further supports the use of this cartridge outdoors or on the range,” said John Myles, Senior Manager of New Products.

Reminds me of how Android phones will have features for 5-years+, then Apple debuts the same feature and say "the first time this feature is on a phone (iphone)". As if the previous 5-years on Android didn't count.

Saw that, my Kel-Tec PMR30 is a fun shooter, always joked it would be a great carry, two spare mags and you have 90 rounds on you!

The Smith does allow optics and that is a plus the PMR30 doesn't. Will have to check it out, always room for another 22wmr in the stable

I enjoyed my Grendel P30, which is the PMR30's ancestor, many years ago. I might want to pick up some sort of hi-cap .22 WMR pistol again at some point.

Btw, GrabAGun has the Smith for $599 right now, for anyone interested.

"These reflex sight mounts allow the user to mount a reflex sight to the slide of the PMR30.

Please choose the brand and model from the drop-down menus."

Nice, however limited to Burris or Doctor products only, and it sits up high,

the S&W looks to be mounted much lower and offers the ability to use "most of the popular red dots available" haven't found a list yet.

Keltec generally has one sort of reputation, S&W M&P another. I'll be buying the Smith to go with the Walther WMP.

I will say that the PMR30 has been flawless from day one... never failing to fire, the only thing is you have to make sure you load the mags correctly, but that can apply to many firearms.

Anything in .22 Magnum has my interest.
To the OP’s point; I shoot a FPC carbine in Steel Challenge this year. Shot a KT Sub-2K for five years prior to that.
When you strip down a S&W FPC, I can honestly tell you it looks exactly like a KT Sub-2K. As in … identical.

My one and only dalliance with .22 magnum began and ended years ago with the AMT Automag II. Both a friend and I bought one, and while they were fun, they both soon broke.

Everyone be patient ... I have faith that S&W will bring out a clever, new companion .22 Magnum carbine that uses the same staggering 30-round capacity magazines Big Grin as this ground-breaking pistol.

Agree with HRK 100%....my PMR30 has never missed a beat and the fireball at discharge is fantastic.

I guess that would explain the email I got on Tuesday from Kel-Tec:

I thought it was odd that they would be sending this out of the blue like that.

My PMR has been completely reliable so far. I love the magnum noise and flame but no recoil.

The Grendel, when they ran, were always kinda fun. Like was mentioned lots of blast...no recoil.

.22 TCM was like that. Huge fireball/blast....ITTY BITTY recoil. It almost messed with your head as your brain is preparing for magnum recoil but your hands get .22LR. Giggle gun.
