I don't really know how to title this, but I would like to add a BBQ style 1911 to my collection. I tend toward black coated, railed & tailed guns with Novak style sights as a rule, but I find myself wanting a plain Gov't style 1911 with good sights in high polish stainless, nickel or hard chrome. Would also like 9mm, but can live with 45. NO GOLD ANYWHERE ON GUN!!! Anybody got a suggestion on a modern production gun that fits my bill? Closest I've seen is a Remington R1, but Remington..... Cliffs notes: wants shiny GI spec 1911 in 9mm. A Perpetual Disappointment...

Have you looked at the Sig 1911's?? I have one that I carry on duty and always get compliments about it. If you are not worried about cash I would look at a les bare, ed brown, wilson combat or colt...I prefer to stay away from Kimbers as I have had issues with them. It's a budget buster, but I think Gary has your answer if you are looking for a classic 1911. Risk the consequences of honesty...

Much closer to "GI" than the aforementioned pistol, but only available in .45, not 9mm: http://www.springfield-armory....911-mil-spec-45-acp/ ___________________________________________ "He was never hindered by any dogma, except the Constitution." - Ty Ross speaking of his grandfather General Barry Goldwater "War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen, and I say let us give them all they want." - William Tecumseh Sherman

I'd recommend a Colt high polish stainless 1911 chambered in .38 Super. Get you some mammoth ivory or stag grips for it and a flower carved holster and belt from El Paso Saddlery.

If I were in your position, I'd probably get a Colt Series 70 Repro in stainless steel and send it off for a high polish finish. I think some black water buffalo horn grips would look really nice with that.
I remember several years ago Colt had a 1911 model called the El Presidente, I think. It was a GI-spec 1911 Government Model in .38 Super, with a high-polish stainless steel finish (or maybe it was electroless nickel...I can't remember), that came with mother-of-pearl grips. OK, have been thinking a little more on this. If you're a little more budget conscience (which sometimes defies a BBQ gun concept), but still pricey, a beautiful hard chrome STI Trojan 1911 9mm with Dawson FO sights and magwell is an option. https://dawsonprecision.com/st...p-5-crp-hard-chrome/ Risk the consequences of honesty...

How about a Dan Wesson Valor, they make it in 9MM

They don't have it in their current catalog, but Colt used to make a 1911 Government in their ultimate stainless finish in .38 Super. For some reason I've always wanted a pimped out "Mexican" 1911 in .38 Super. My daughter can deflate your daughter's soccer ball.

Excellent suggestion, the series 70 is made by Colt's custom shop and is a beautiful pistol. The only problem is that they recently discontinued the stainless version. (So if blue works, then buy that version. I have it and love it.) However, a very close cousin is the Colt 1991 series 80 pistol. It can be had in stainless and as a 9mm. Plus, since they seem to over produce them, sometimes you can find them at CDNN for a good price. In fact, I just did a search and found exactly what I think you are looking for: https://www.cdnnsports.com/col...inless.html?___SID=U Here is a picture taken from CDNN: Take off those rubber grips and slap on some wood Colt medallion grips or some fancy Esmeralda's, and you've got yourself one heck of a BBQ gun! Bought a Vbob last month. Haven't had it to the range yet. I was thinking more along the GI spec line of guns, like the Colt shown above. Going for something that would look right behind the hip of a Chicago gangster in a pin stripe suit. Just with better sights. I can't find my copy of the book or a description online, but my intention was to build a flashy version of the pistols issued to Earl Swagger's raid team in "Hot Springs". A Perpetual Disappointment...

Shiny. 9mm. Silver/Stainless. GI spec/style. Novak (style) sights. I'm not aware of anything that quite fits that description. Maybe one of the fancier GI style Colts (usually .45 or .38 super) with the 10-8 NM sights (or have someone fit some Novak style sights)? (Hate those grips) Maybe a custom ordered Baer based on his CMP model (changing finish, caliber, and sights)?

Hmm...I totally missed this in the original post. Now I'm thinking (like others) Colt is your answer. Risk the consequences of honesty...

Are you looking for a good or a good gun? lol I mean high end gun? If not RIA sells a nickel, fairly "GI" model around $600+ (though a quick peek at Gunbrokeme shows mostly 38 Super and a few 45's. _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.

Colt's offerings are unimpressive. You can get much better fit and finish and function for the cost from other makers, these days. With colt, you're paying not for the pistol, but for the pony. If you're going to stop at production "semi-custom," then look no further than Dan Wesson. For what DW is asking these days, it's not a big leap into a custom firearm such as Les Baer. Move up a bit more into Wilson. Guncrafter makes good 1911s with no annoying roll marks. I'm happy with my Sig 1911 pistols. The C3 is a light, comfortable CCO model pistol with an officer length frame, commander length slide, good finish, reliable, and accurate with an upgraded more modern extractor system than the classic 1911. If I were to recommend a good starting point for quality that's not too expensive, I'd go with the DW Valor. It won't disappoint.

Not my cup o' tea, but there's the Rock Island Super Polish 1911 Nickel, available in 45AUTO and .38 Super. Very GI, very shiny, usually under $700.

if you can find an older Kimber (from the Clackamas) era, they are really beautiful. I have one in that shiny black "chrome" finish and everyone that sees it raves about it ------------------------------------ 135 ├┼┼╕ 246R

Production, See the Colts above. But there's other stuff out there, and it's probably going to cost you a few bucks. http://turnbullfirearms.com/ If you want a "WOW" type slide: https://www.caspianarms.com/sl...ent-5-slide-damascus ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot.
