I'm seriously considering purchasing a P320 XCompact. I really want it with a manual safety though.

What would it take and how hard is it to add a manual safety to one of these?

It would take a new FCU that's already set up for a manual safety.

Even if you could somehow find the manual safety parts themselves, you can't simply drop in a manual safety to a non-safety FCU. The layout of the metal FCU frames are different between the safety and non-safety versions. Plus some of the other FCU parts are different, like the trigger bars and some of the pins.

You'd also need to either buy a new grip module that's already cut with the two notches for the safety levers, or modify your existing grip module by cutting/filing the safety notches yourself. I don't believe any X-series modules are available from the factory with safety cutouts, but the areas of the notches are very faintly outlined to help guide your cuts.


Your best route would be to buy a X-Compact, then either sell the FCU and use the money to buy a FCU with safety, or find someone who wants to trade their safety FCU straight across for a non-safety FCU. Then use a drill, Dremel, and some hand files on your X-Compact grip module to cut out the notches.

That would solve the issue of FCU compatibility. But you'd still have to acquire the proper internal parts, which SIG doesn't sell separately.

They do manual safety conversions. I wonder if they would sell you the parts?

I seriously doubt it. I know Sig would fill a contract order for a large number of guns, but don’t know if they’d do it on a one time basis. I have P229 9mm from the Flint Michigan PD that has a department spec’d Magazine safety (like S&W), so it could be done at the factory. But again, they won’t likely send out the parts to do in the field.

First, those are P365 parts and even if you got that for a P320, that's not enough, The FCU needs a partial cutout in the chassis to accommodate the manual safety.

Sig won't sell all the parts you need as I had a M17 Bravo and wanted to remove the manual safety. I found another person online that needed the manual safety parts for an 80% FCU he was building. He paid me top dollar for the parts and provided the replacements I needed.

The ops best bet is to purchase a manual safety P320 and get an RX conversion. Sell off the standard slide, etc.. to recoup some costs.
