Hello, picked up a like new P220 in gray plastic case with two mags. Looks like new. Slide state, Made in Germany, nothing on frame but serial. Through a bit of reading I believe this to possibly German parts assembled in NH? Serial is G 280 XXX

What you have is an early example of a US-assembled P220, the major components of which were produced in Europe.

Thank you! Think I got a good deal, looks to be fired very little. Hopefully get it to the range next week.

Does it have a spur shaped hammer? Does the hammer rest/rebound at half cock? Just curious. You’re right in the sweet-spot of production, I think.

Going by the serial, it looks like yours would have been made around 1997.

A more desirable production timeframe for many.

Let us know how you like it and send us some pics if you can.

The bobbed hammer and rebound safety were introduced concurrently at serial number G 219166 (late 1993-early 1994).

Thanks all! I unloaded some extreme multiples of some other items and circled back to Sig's after a number of years absent.

Thanks, I forgot when the change happened. Sounds like the OP picked up one of the P220’s people search for.

Enjoy it in good health, Behr. Smile

This falls in the mid-90's vintage, my favorite ever for the P-220.

Please let us know how you like it.

I've got G257166, a US-assembled P220 in .45 ACP. SIG says the manufacture date is November 1995. This is one of the early ones with the overstamped 'W.' in the 'Made in W. Germany' rollmark on the slide. I would think that my pistol is near the very beginning of US assembly of the P220.

behr70's pistol, being a bit later, has the 'W.' omitted from the rollmark.

And, yes, my particular P220 is the equal of the European-assembled pistols, a very fine example of the big bore P220. I think SIGARMS knew that they had something to prove with the US assembly, and they succeeded.

I have a soft spot for 1995-9 P220s.

My first was a KF full W. German marked version which I still own and I have owned several various with the W-Stamped over (two, G255406 & G257077 both still triple serial number marked w/o proof marks, being US assembled) over the years.

Great pistols, all of them.

Mine was a KD West German spur hammer in the 210xxx range, not too long before the change. I really liked that pistol and some day, when the time is right, I’d like to try to find one in the era we’re discussing in decent shape. I had an easier time shooting that pistol than many others I’ve tried. There’s just something right with that design in that era, and having held that pistol in hand and then a stainless slide Equinox P220 that my housemate also bought that day, we both agreed that the folded slide balanced better.

I also have an overstamped "W" serial G261288. I'm proud to have rescued it from a pawn shop.
This gun makes me a better shooter.

I agree with your opinion Boss. These are remarkable pistols.

Yep. Gotta say that my KE P220 in .38 Super is one of my favorites.
