I love the Sigs I have, Nightmare Fastback in 45, P229 in 40 and a P320 in 9MM. I have been carrying a Kimber Crimson Trace but finally dumped it and have been switching between my Nightmare and SA ROO in 45.

I have the urge to buy something new so tossing between a Nightmare Carry in 45 or 357 Sig and a P220 Equinox 3.9" in 45.

I had thought about spending a little more for a DW VBOB but after holding one I am not sure you get the $450 in cost difference over a nightmare. Or I can forego buying my next 3 guns and get a WC EDC X9.

What are you opinions?

SO I take it you like your DW Classic Bobtail. Any functional differences between that, the Guardian Bob and the VBob? Besides the alloy/steel/stainless and cosmetics?

The Equinox line is the most appealing to me and yet it is still functional. To me, they are like the working art of Sig. I had a P220 Equinox years ago and really liked everything about it. Recoil was light, overall grip felt perfect and I like the da/sa option.

I second the equinox carry myself. I have an equinox carry, and the sig 1911 fastback. Both are great pistols!

I have a guardian in 9mm, had one in 45 and did not care for the 45 at all. I also have a VBOB in 45, I had a pm7, razorback, pm9, pm10 and a heritage. I am down to just the guardian 9 and vbob, because they are that good. The others were not bad, just not as pleasant to shoot as those two are.

Functional differences between the guardian and vbob is simply the alloy frame of the guardian. The alloy is a good balance for 9mm/super 38.

IMHO it is not a good balance for 10mm/45acp. I just dislike shooting it.

I have shot the cco, both in 10mm and 45. Not my favorite at all.

My father has a equinox 229 in 40. It is a little more flippy than I like.

In the past I have owned a p220 SAO Eite. I loved it, sold it fund some pcp air rifles. If you like 1911 style, but want a p220, that is a great choice.

I have shot a couple hundred round out of a buddy's wc edc x9. Aside from my ted yost highpower it is damn near flawless a gun as i have shot. It fits my hand great, sights line up beautifully, and it is on target every time.

Here is what i currently carry regularly in order of usage
Sig p226 SAO elite
Dan Wesson Guardian 9
Sig p225
Sig x5
Hk USP 40/45
VBOB (almost exclusively in the winter. At start of November till February it seems to be on my hip every day.)

Special occasions i will carry my Ted Yost BHP,
When doing property work, i carry one of my 686+ revolvers, either the 2 7/8" or the 5".

What would I buy? I would look at the Wilson, Why? it is that good of a gun. Behind that, I would pick up the vbob in 9mm in black. It is an all stainless steel gun, super soft shooting and quick on the follow-up shots. Comfortable to hold.

If i wanted a lighter gun, it would be the guardian 9mm. I can hit a 15" plate at 175 yds 9 times out of ten with mine. I have well over 10k through it.

Can't speak to the carry aspects as that's verbotten to us in Canuckistan, but generally speaking - don't buy what you 'almost' want or the option that's 'good enough', get the one you really want (reali$tically speaking of course). Even if it is that WC EDC X9. Good luck with the hunt!

This, everytime I settled, I always eventually ended up buying the gun I really wanted anyways.....then the settled gun just sits in the safe.....Although not sure if I'd want to spend the money a Wilson costs to carry it everyday.

DSGROUSE= Hitting a 15" plate at 175 yards 9 times out of 10 is a pretty incredible feat with any pistol.

I'm on a fewer but better kick at the moment. I'm not much of a collector either though I certainly appreciate the urge. Every time I move into that mode, I usually end up consolidating and downsizing again at some point. That's just me.

I agree with Jimmy, save up and buy what you really want, the WC.

The DW Classic is a great gun, especially the ones being produced now by CW/CZ. If you end up going that route, I would choose one made after 2009/2010 or at least 2007/2008 if you buy used. I believe the components improved after the latter date and after the former date, the frames are forged rather than cast, if that makes any difference to you. It does to me, but it's "controversial".

I have a 2007 Classic in 10mm. I just took the gun to the range yesterday and fell in love with it all over again.

However, having said that, if you have the money and don't want to wait on the WC, definitely go with a Valor Bobtail. SIG is making great 1911s right now, but I think the DW Valor Bobtail is higher quality than the Nightmare Fastback. I think there is more attention to detail and better internal components.

So, my vote is for the DW V-BOB if you want it now, I don't think you'll regret that decision. However, in the end, the WC EDCX9 is a fascinating gun and if you want 9mm you can't get the Classic in that caliber and the EDC has a more capacity than the V-Bob 9mm, 15 rounds, and has an "accuracy guarantee". It also has an aluminum frame, so it'll be lighter if carry is what you are after, although only about 1.5 ounces lighter than the V-Bob loaded.

The EDC is also slightly more compact than the V-Bob or the CBOB.

If I were making the decision you are making, I'd go for the EDC. I also think it will retain more of it's value should you, in the future, decide to sell it.

I have several DW's, government size through CCO size. I particularly like the CCO, as I'm partial to that in a 1911.

Any of the DW pistols are very well made, very well fit, and excellent 1911's. The VBOB is great, and if you choose to go full size, you can't go wrong with any of the 5" models. It's what the 1911 was designed to be, and the best for absolute reliability.

I also have Sig 1911's and have had zero issues with them in function, fit and finish, or any other respect. They've all been 100%.

I'd pick a Sig in either 9mm or 45ACP to bet my life on. Both are easy to manage and Sigs just work. Chris

The EDC X9 all day. It's the finest 9mm I've ever shot, 100% reliable, more accurate than I can be (which reminds me to get back to training more...sigh..) and absolutely dead sexy to carry. Get one and run it hard, the way it was meant to be.

I just dipped my toe into the 1911 ocean with a DW ECO 9mm. What a great carry piece. Well executed design with excellent fit, finish and function. Made me a believer and made my mid-90's German P220 feel like a clunker, which makes me sad.

IMHO the Equinox Sigs are their prettiest models, short of some custom offering. One thing to beware of, the finish is not that durable, so would not use it for EDC.

If you have the patience, what about the Sig 229 Legion SAO?

Since working at the shop, I've had plenty of opportunities to handle both SIG and DW 1911s, and have gotten the chance to shoot a few as well. Aesthetics aside, hands down I find the sublime build quality of DWs the superior 1911 in this fight. Even SIG models that cost as much if not more than certain Dan Wesson examples don't measure up as I judge them. Fit and finish, the way DWs handle...it all makes them feel like the superior design that I believe that they are. There's ample justification as to why folks call them "semi-custom". Examples of both that I've shot have been very good, but on average I find I have more confidence when I handle a DW. To me various SIG 1911s (including the Nightmare) do feel like a cheaper gun. The lone exception to this was with an Emperor Scorpion that we had earlier this year; very nice slide-to-frame fit, excellent trigger action and an actual flawless(!) finish to the gun (now what I thought of the color and the cut of of its grip panels is another matter, but as I said earlier I put aesthetics aside...at least until the next paragraph).

If I factor in aesthetics, I think SIG does more interesting concepts than CZ/DW does but in the end I'm not a fan of 1911 slides looking like they belong on a P226. I like the contrasting black/silver of the Nightmare, but I strongly preferred the version that came with a traditional rounded top slide that SIG did a few years ago (Nightmare color scheme, but I don't believe it was actually called a 'Nightmare' back then). We had two of those traditional slide models in the shop at the time and I gave serious consideration to picking one of those up, but in the end their loosey-goosey slide fit killed it for me. Far less expensive 1911s that I was also contemplating at the time simply had better fit tolerances. I saved money and bought a 06700 SR1911 and to date the Ruger has never made me doubt the choice (although I do profess to liking black slides more if given the option, which at the time the Ruger did not offer such a beast).

In the long term I don't know how either brand of 1911 holds up since I don't own examples of any of them. But in my mind there's no question if I was looking for another 1911 and I could only choose from these two gene pools, a Dan Wesson would be joining my little fleet of 1911s. A Valor still remains on my to-do list...when and if I get around to it.

^^^ soggy_spinout, I like your rationale Smile

I only have two 1911's currently, a DW Specialist and a Ruger SR1911. I enjoy them both.
