Gentlemen,
I got an all German made 9mm 239 imported by PW Arms. Does anyone know how many they imported. I was under the impression that it was 50. I have heard that it was a bunch more than that. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Someone sold one here in the Classifieds a few years ago. Similar to Warhorse's comment, I too was astonished to see a P239 with "Made in Germany" on it. I don't know how firearms production facilities are set up, but it seems that SIG figured it was worth having Sauer in Eckernförde add the extra tooling to make the 239 over there in addition to making them here. Wonder how many of these were made there overall? When the 239 first came out in the mid-late 90s I bought a US-made one and found the workmanship to be be great.

Fifty of the German-import P239s were sold by Dan’s Ammo in 2009, and I heard they got three more in 2011, but I don’t know if any more were imported beyond those 53. All were 9mm, and they differ from US-made P239s in several ways:

~Slides are marked “Made in Germany”, with an additional import mark “PW ARMS REDMOND WA”.

~They’re stamped with a two-letter date code. All the ones I’ve seen were marked AH (2007).

~They have German proof marks and triple serial numbers (frame, slide and barrel).

~They’re finished in black Ilaflon, a durable teflon-type coating.

~They came in a black plastic case with a blue sticker that says “SigSauer Classic Line”, inside a thin cardboard outer box with a label indicating model, caliber, serial number, and “Ilaflon beschichtet” (“Ilaflon coated”).

~Included were manuals in both German and English, plus a five-shot test target fired at 25 meters(!) at the factory in Germany.

~The two 8-round magazines included with each gun have dovetail backs, not the smooth backs normally seen on P239 magazines.

I bought a few of these from the 2009 batch, and have been carrying one for the last 12 years. They’re extremely accurate pistols—I just checked one of the 25-meter test targets, and the 5-shot group measured just 1.75”. The Ilaflon finish has held up extremely well; even after a dozen years and over 6000 rounds fired, my daily carry gun looks nearly new.

Dan’s Ammo got in some other interesting imported Sigs around the same time. In 2009 he also had 75 P245s, German-proofed and triple-serialed with import marks and packaging similar to the P239s, and in 2010 he had a bunch of P226 AL SO models as well.

My P239 9mm has German frame with a US upper assembly. It came in a red box. Nice gun, but a common variant I think.

I wasnt lucky enough to catch one of the PW 239s. Did manage to get a PW 245 and a 226 al so that i still have. Congrats that 239 was a great catch
