I may be a bit of a weirdo regarding N-frame grips but, more often than not, I prefer stock, factory Targets.

On a shorter-barreled N-frame, I like the combination of factory Magnas and a Tyler T-Grip adapter.

Hard to find, but I do like grips like these from Bear Hug by the late Deacon Deason. Even Mr. Deason’s heir apparent to this style grip, Ed Adamovich of Blu Magnum Grips, has passed-away.

Ahrends for me. They are very pricey, if you can find them...

I also own a 610, and have been down this path.
Believe me when I tell you that wood grips on that revolver will not be pleasant to shoot with anything beyond warm 10mm rounds.

My Altamonts just sit in the box.

The best (functional) grips I have found are Pachmayr Diamond Pros at $30-ish.

I've found the big, full coverage impact absorbing Hogue S&W X frame grips to work wonders for comfort on the N Frame guns...I just put a set on my 3" 629 .44mag and it made a huge difference in comfort. The are a bit of a handful but truly do reduce felt recoil impact.

inspcalahan got it right, providing your 610 is a round-butt, but no need to go through S&W, they're available on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Hogue-1...ip%2Caps%2C96&sr=8-1

I use them on all my competition revolvers. They have an elastomer at the top of the backstrap, where it interfaces with the web of your hand.

Adios,

On my heavy hitters, Dan Wesson 44mag and 445 Supermag I remove the "pretty wood grips" and put on the Pachmayr Presentation grips (I do not like finger grooves) when ever I shoot them.
On my S&W 460 I only use the factory rubber grips.
The 30/30 and .223 grip on the shared frame. Contender has a Pachmayer Presentation grip installed.
I don't care for rubber grips but in these cases they make a big difference in hand punishment.

I bought a Hogue grip from a member here . For my 27-2 beautiful wood, the only thing I've bought from Classified. I have fairly small hands and the slimmer rubber Pachmayr fit me better.

I can't find a photo right now.
I have a S&W 627 PC, and put Hogue Big Butt grips, custom made for my hand, on it in some gorgeous tropical hardwood.

They look something like this:

I have some original Herrett Target stocks from the 70s. I used them to split bowling pins at 50 yds with them on a 27. Well sometimes they would splinter up, but not completely part. But the 29 would cleave them completely in half if you centered a Speer 240 half jacket HP under a healthy dose of 2400. I glass bedded them to the square but of one of the guns, to get a perfect fit. THAT was just pure fun. Good times.

Grips are a personal thing. If they fit your hand correctly the transfer of recoil is much more pleasant than if the grips do not fit.

This is much more of an issue with wood grips than it is with rubber since rubber is very forgiving and wood is very solid

What fits my hand properly may or may not fit your hand, so it is very hard to recommend a grip unless we are talking about rubber

Truthfully I much prefer wood.

Pictured below is my 6 1/2" Model 610 revolver, mine has had its chamber's lengthened so that it can also fire the 10MM Magnum cartridge in addition to the 10MM Auto cartridge the revolver was originally chambered for. I am certain that you already know that the Model 610 can also chamber and fire the 40 Smith and Wesson cartridge

On the round butt frames I am very fond of the original Factory Combat grips.

When I do not have any of those on hand or cannot find any of them, I tend to use grips from Hogue. My preference is to delete the finger groves when I order them and I will often add the white line spacer and the contrasting butt cap. This revolver is wearing checkered Tulipwood

This Model 625 is wearing uncheckered Hogue grips made of Goncalo Alves wood. As you can see the white line spacer in contrasting butt cap add to the visual appeal though they do not add to the functionality

My 4” Highway Patrolman and Security Six both wear Hogue Monogrips. They fit my hand great, and make hot .357 loads easier to shoot. My tastes run more towards wood, but my wallet says off-the-shelf rubber, and these are an awesome compromise.

I really like these. Comfortable and fills the hand. So many wood grips, except the factory square butt target grips, are just too small.
