Staccato HD series

bac1023Staccato HD series
Last month, I picked up a like new HD P4.5 for a great deal. These are pistols I didn't think I'd like when I first heard of them, but now, being the owner of two, my thoughts have clearly changed.
The HD series is similar to Staccato 2011's, but uses Glock magazines and a Series 80 FPS design. While I'm not a fan of firing pin safeties on 1911's and 1911-like pistols, the HD triggers are the nicest Series 80 triggers I've ever felt. Overall quality is very high, in typical Staccato fashion. I also find the grip textering the best that Staccato offers.
The HD ergonomics are better for me than are Staccato's 2011 models and the guns point extremely well. I'm not an optics guy, but find the small rear sight immediately lines up when I raise the pistol. I find these handguns to be excellent shooters, optics or not.
Some pics...the P4.5 has the sight block.
Here it is with its smaller sibling, the P4.

Vipers28Nice!
I like my 4.5 a lot. Have thought about grabbing a P4, still may but the C4X has my attention at the moment.

Very nice. Another member of the HD line, albeit not cheap.

SigLawAnother fan of the 4.5. I absolutely love shooting that gun it is so smooth. If it were not for the fact I already have a 2024 C Staccato I would probably get the 3.6. I like the idea of the CX but it is so expensive.

ChowserI couldn't get used to the forward rear sight. I ended up buying a Dawson plate for my C3.6 that moved the rear sight to the rear.
And it was a PITA to knock that rear sight pin out. lol

Jim WatsonA great idea, cheap common magazines in an entirely different gun.
You can get 2011 mutants to take Glock, Sig, and CZ magazines. Along with original STI types, why would anybody bring out a proprietary magazine?

Vipers28I have a '24C as well full grip and it's an amazing shooter for sure but the lust for the C4X is strong.
Debated the 3.6 but after handling one and comparing I'd grab a P4 before I ever grabbed a 3.6.

In Bul Armory's case, they're better in every way than the STI 2011 style magazine, holds more rounds, and MecGar's are less expensive than even the Checkmate mags. I can drop one of those mags and not have rounds shoot out the top of the magazine, but to be fair I've not been able to test the new MecGar 2011 magazines if they're the same or not.
As for the HD line, they're priced higher than they should be for the performance you get, and I hate the new "trim lines" bullshit that Staccato has gone to. There is 0% reason why you should only get 2 or 3 magazines when you can buy additional mags for $20 a pop when you're spending $2.5-3K a gun, and it should come with one FREE spacer plate for the RMR or a coupon like Walther puts in their PDPs to get a free spacer of your choice mailed to you after you buy the gun.
Staccato has gotten too cocky in recent years, but at least if I did buy one that had hot spots near the safeties that still get complaints, Staccato will given me a priority shipping label to get it fixed ASAP.

ChowserBetween my various 2011 mag guns, I found MecGar mags to work best. Never had an issue. I have issues with my Checkmate UHC (19rd flush fit) and 20rd mags. Doesn't matter the gun. It's the mags.

ChowserThey just announced the P4X is coming.
Basically the C4X upper on the P4 lower.

DaBigBRI'd really like to get some time on the P4.5. I have no real need for it and feel like I would prefer a 5" or longer slide so I haven't really acted on it.

DanHI've heard from those who have shot the P4.5HD that it shoots like a longer gun, so it's probably the closest we will get to a 5" HD. I'm also wondering if it could be used as a standoff device so if the gun is against someone it won't bump the slide out of battery.

Nope. It's still attached directly to the barrel and will push the gun out of battery.

Are you shooting a 5 inch of some sort in LO?
